My passion for helping others led me to choose a career in the medical field. My career in the medical field started twenty years ago. I entered college planning on earning a degree in nursing but graduated with a degree in surgical technology. I worked exclusively as a surgical technologist for twelve years which taught me so many amazing skills. I learned the importance of teamwork and communication in a high stress environment. I learned to think on my feet and adapt as needed.I believe that career advancement comes with experience so I was offered a position working in an office for a plastic surgeon. I transitioned into a medical assistant role which allowed me to interact one on one with patients. It allowed me to use my passion for caring to help patients navigate their care. A year into my medical assistant career I was given the opportunity to become a medical coder. After receiving my coding certification I was able to utilize all of my certifications by working in the office as a medical assistant, assisting my surgeon employer in the operating room and coding all office and surgical procedures. Performing multiple roles taught me how to multitask and the importance of attention to detail.Four years ago I transitioned to a medical coding only position. I do medical coding for primary care and plastic surgery. This position has taught me the importance of time management and how to efficiently conduct the research needed to successfully code.I completed my Bachelor's Degree in Health and Human Services in December of 2023. I obtained this degree not only for growing as a healthcare professional but as a way to facilitate my transition into the business aspect of healthcare. In an attempt to achieve professional growth and achievement I have persevered and achieved my ultimate goal of graduating with an MBA. I am excited to use my twenty years of experience in the medical field and the vast amount of knowledge that this degree has taught me to make a difference in the lives of those I come into contact with. I can't wait to have an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of my future patients.
