The Get Yourself Into College® method transforms the overwhelming college preparation and application process into a meaningful, exciting, and empowering experience. The method I’ve developed emerged out of my 20 years within higher education—as an English professor, award-winning literary scholar, academic advisor and mentor, developer of an internship program, curriculum designer, and member of admissions and hiring committees. My unique insider’s perspective and innovative approach to educating and motivating young people—from the most driven, gifted kids to the most stubborn procrastinators—have helped my students achieve exceptional success.Students in my program have been accepted to Barnard, Boston College, Boston University, Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Duke, Emory, Harvard, MIT, New York University, Northwestern, Princeton, Stanford, University of Chicago, University of Pennsylvania, Vanderbilt, and many other great schools. During a recent admissions cycle, they were awarded over 1.8 million dollars in merit-based scholarships. GOALS I love providing one-on-one mentoring support to my students, but I'm also deeply committed to ensuring that every motivated student has access to high-quality guidance throughout the college application process. To fulfill my mission, I’m looking to partner with libraries, schools, and other organizations that support high school students. Such partnerships can take many forms: licensing my online program so that all students in your school or district have access to it, bringing me in to lead a series of hands-on workshops for students, or even joining forces to host a webinar for students, parents, teachers, and/or guidance counselors. Creator Of Online Videos On American Literature & WritingGet Into Lit Jan 2010 - PresentGet Into Lit is a new part of my YouTube channel, which focuses on providing high-quality introductory videos on classic and contemporary works of American literature. These videos for high school and college students are also “text exemplars” included in the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts. Unlike many other videos on literature, my aim is not to summarize texts or even offer my own developed interpretation. Instead, my goal is to guide students into the texts by providing them with thought-provoking questions and contextual information that empowers them to understand the literary works and develop their own interpretations. I'm proud to be one of the teachers featured in Knowmia's Video Revolution Project. You can watch Ariel Braunstein's interview with me by visiting the Knowmia website. As the DIRECTOR OF THE INTERNSHIP PROGRAM, I created an innovative method of assisting English majors in discovering and clarifying the underlying connections between their academic, personal, and professional interests.
