I work with students from all over the world. Right now, I'm working with students in Beijing, Boulder, Clifton Park (NY), Fayetteville (NY), Greenwich (CT), Middletown (CT), Manlius (NY), New York City, Philadelphia, Potsdam (Germany), Shanghai, Syracuse, Vancouver (Canada), and Xi'an.

Get Into Lit is a new part of my YouTube channel, which focuses on providing high-quality introductory videos on classic and contemporary works of American literature. These videos for high school and college students are also “text exemplars” included in the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts. Unlike many other videos on literature, my aim is not to summarize texts or even offer my own developed interpretation. Instead, my goal is to guide students into the texts by providing them with thought-provoking questions and contextual information that empowers them to understand the literary works and develop their own interpretations. I taught upper-level American literature courses and writing courses. In fall 2013, I offered a hybrid (online and in-person) version of my interdisciplinary course on Henry David Thoreau.

For nearly two decades, I've been a sought-after copywriter, content developer, and editor. I still work with a select group of high-level clients by special application only.I’ve worked with monks and moguls, rock and rap stars, bestselling romance novelists and esoteric scholars, as well as entrepreneurs, start-ups, and small business owners. At HARLEQUIN BOOKS, I edited and wrote copy for award-winning contemporary women's fiction and romance writers. At SPIN MAGAZINE, I edited articles and assisted in the process of interviewing rock musicians and rap artists. As an independent SCHOLARLY EDITOR, I've collaborated with professors and graduate students at Columbia University, New York University, and the City University of New York. For SIDDHA YOGA PUBLICATIONS, I provided content development and editorial support to Swami Durgananda (Sally Kempton), author of The Heart of Meditation; Swami Anantananda, author of Living Siddha Yoga Wisdom; and Swami Shantananda, author of The Splendor of Recognition. For the BB&T CHARLESTON WINE + FOOD FESTIVAL, I developed almost all of the online and brochure copy for the 2012 festival. For ENTREPRENEURS and BUSINESS OWNERS, I've developed content for websites, videos, online programs, blogs, and e-books.

I TAUGHT upper-level undergraduate and graduate American literature courses, freshman writing, and designed special interdisciplinary courses on the art and literature of war and nonconformity. As the DIRECTOR OF THE INTERNSHIP PROGRAM, I created an innovative method of assisting English majors in discovering and clarifying the underlying connections between their academic, personal, and professional interests. Interns participated in an online course that I designed and taught, which focused on learning how to use WordPress to create blogs showcasing their internship experiences, professional development, and related interests; figuring out how to use social media (e.g., LinkedIn and Twitter) to cultivate authentic and productive professional relationships; and engaging in in-depth online discussions. I also teamed up with alumni and Career Services to organize mentoring and career-related symposiums. Along the way, I provided all interested majors with individualized assistance with their cover letters and and résumés.

I mentored fifty-five freshmen and sophomores, guided students through the process of preparing application essays for scholarships and internships; served on the admissions committee and the search committee for new advisors; and supported students in the process of locating internships, study abroad programs, and volunteer opportunities.

I taught full-time faculty members in a wide range of disciplines how to design and implement writing-intensive versions of their courses. I co-conducted weekly sessions that focused on revising syllabi, identifying course goals, using writing as a means of mastering core concepts, creating discipline-specific writing activities, staging formal writing projects, responding to student writing, and handling assessment.

In addition to teaching a wide range of literature and writing classes, I was selected to participate in the award-winning Freshman Year Initiative program, which fosters a stronger sense of community at this commuter college and improves retention rates by integrating students into learning communities that feature core courses taught by professors who work together to create a series of interrelated projects.
