“NYC: State Of The Art” was the first-ever art industry conference focused on New York City. NYC:SOTA 2010 featured a full day of investigation and solutions from stakeholders: artists, non-profit galleries, charitable foundations, art collectors, developers, auction houses, galleries, museums, and government officials.NYC:SOTA 2010 featured City Council Member Jimmy Van Braemer (head of the cultural committee) as the keynote speaker. Panelists included executives from New York Foundation for the Arts, The Joan Mitchell Foundation, Phillips de Pury, The New York Academy of Art...and many others.New York’s visual fine artists have faced persistent challenges, and the current economy only exacerbates the problem. The National Endowment of the Arts reports that the number of American adults attending arts and cultural events has sunk to the lowest level ever recorded. Because of the impact of New York’s $21 billion art industry, economic fortunes and creative legacies are at stake. The need for dialogue is urgent.NYC:SOTA 2010 served to open a dialogue and launch solutions, to preserve the city's position as a global art capital, especially as a city that not only sells art, but fosters its creation.
