During my internship at the International Relations department, I operated within a small team that was responsible for the communications and relations between the City of Rotterdam and various bodies, organisations and governments representing several countries and regions in the world. In addition, the team was responsible for informing and advising the Executive Board of Rotterdam on various issues concerning foreign policy. My responsibilities included: • Providing mayor A. Aboutaleb with information on then current developments in the United States, the United Nations, the UN Security Council and the Rotterdam Resilience Strategy with regard to an official visit of the mayor to the UN Headquarters in New York City.• Providing the mayor with structured information and background information on the specific itinerary for his visit. • Assisting with external communications such as press releases and answering questions sent in by citizens regarding the government's foreign policy. • Monitoring and documenting the media coverage of the developments regarding TTIP (Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership).• Conducting independent research on the possible positive and negative consequences of TTIP for the City of Rotterdam.• Attending meetings and lectures organised by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs on various issues regarding Netherlands-U.S. affairs.

As a freelance English language tutor, I taught several levels concurrently, ranging from beginning speakers of English to students who were approaching fluency. Instruction in English included accent building (RP&GA), conversational skills in English, vocabulary, grammar, spelling and other mechanics of the language.
