Jennifer Carruth is a dedicated higher education professional with a strong interest in administration, research, outreach, retention, and diversity initiatives. Since 2006, she has been a full-time support staff member at Mississippi State University, currently serving as an Administrative Assistant for multiple research groups at the Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems (CAVS) and as an adjunct instructor in the Department of Sociology.An alumnus of Mississippi State University, Jennifer earned her B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies in 2010, focusing on Social & Developmental Psychology and Human Development/Family Studies. She went on to receive her M.S. in Sociology in 2015 and is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Sociology. Her research emphasizes education and diversity, with a particular focus on the Deep South region of the USA.Jennifer is passionate about engaging with a wide range of individuals, including business associates, faculty, administrators, teachers, students, and researchers. In her role as an instructor, she has developed a robust teaching portfolio that includes experience in both in-person and online formats, course preparation, lecturing, grading, and mentoring undergraduate students.As a Ph.D. candidate, Jennifer has honed her skills in coordinating research projects, conducting data collection, employing both quantitative and qualitative methods, analyzing and interpreting data, and translating findings into actionable recommendations. Her expertise extends to grant writing, publishing, and presenting her work at conferences.Committed to making a positive impact on her community and Mississippi State University, Jennifer is an active member of various professional organizations, including the American Sociological Association, Southern Sociological Society, Sociologists for Women in Society, and Alpha Kappa Delta Sociology Honor Society. She also served on various committees and as an MSU Safe Zone Ally and trainer, contributing to the Safe Zone Advisory Board. Jennifer's contributions have been recognized through several awards, including the Outstanding Master's Student award in the Department of Sociology in 2013, the MSU President's Commission on the Status of Minorities Diversity Award in 2014, and the Zacharias Distinguished Staff Award in 2014.
