I am an experienced ESL/EB (Emergent Bilingual) and English Language Arts teacher. I hold Texas Educator Certifications in English Language Arts and Reading, grades (4-8) and (7-12), along with an ESL Certification Endorsement. I have similar teaching certification credentials in Colorado. My teaching experiences allow me to work with students from a variety of backgrounds, and I currently teach English Language Learners at the secondary level. In this role, I collaborate with core content teachers, design educational supports for EB students, and monitor students' progress in English language acquisition. In addition, I facilitate ESL training for fellow staff members. My educational tenure also includes teaching non-traditional learners who, for a variety of reasons, have been designated “at risk." My students include academically, socio-economically, and culturally diverse learners; therefore, differentiated instruction is warranted on any given day. I also strive to design creative lessons that appeal to a wide variety of students. In addition, I utilize 1:1 technology in the classroom and have collaborated, created and facilitated staff technology training. I try to challenge students academically while fostering mutual respect in my classroom. Above everything else, I believe that a positive relationship between a student and teacher is vital to the child’s success in school. I constantly adapt instruction based upon my students’ needs, and I collect and review student data in order to enhance individualized learning. I devote time to reflect upon my work in the classroom. I consider myself a lifelong learner and model this tenet for my students. I also attend teacher workshops and training that allow me to remain proactive in the pedagogy field. These are aspects of my own teaching practices that have helped define who I am as an educator.
