I work with an amazing team of people to create marketable, on-trend books for major publishers, such as Macmillan. While managing these projects, I develop the book concepts, find the perfect authors and artists to bring them to life, edit their work, and mentor them through the publishing process. I also research and write a fair amount of projects myself. At Hollan, we work quickly and carefully, using sales data, SEO, and consumer demand to ensure that our projects are always well positioned to sell. And with titles in humor, children's fiction, cooking, lifestyle, gaming, and more, there isn't a category we don't cover!

As a freelance writer, I researched and wrote seventeen books published by Macmillan, Andrews McMeel, and more. Subjects ranged from cooking and alternative medicine to history and personal growth. One editor remarked that I “really can write anything.” But my favorite projects were the ones designed to motivate and empower others, especially with humor.

My book publishing background gives me a way with words, an eye for design and photography, and a good understanding of copyright law. I used that to cultivate customer traffic and loyalty by writing, editing, and designing compelling website copy, social media posts, and marketing materials for small businesses and local nonprofits using WordPress, Meta for Business, Canva, Unsplash, and more. I also wrote instructional documents to help the businesses embrace new technology.

I wore all the hats to produce gorgeous award-winning illustrated nonfiction books on a variety of subjects. Throughout my work, I collaborated with freelancers and other departments, performed edits according to house style and the Chicago Manual of Style, researched and organized photography, styled books in InDesign, proofread layouts, and solved problems as they came up to meet every deadline. I also drastically reduced production costs by finding free sources of high-quality photography, then created a detailed instructional document with screenshots for my coworkers on how to do the same.

I worked my way up from Editorial Intern to Associate Editor with my own book projects by absorbing new skills like a sponge. During that time, I collaborated with every corner of the company while helping my team create beautiful nonfiction books by researching, writing, proofreading, editing, and designing content. I also wrote and designed a comprehensive multi-department training manual when I realized none existed for new hires.
