I’m a maker by nature. I love the feeling of creating something, whether that means knitting a sweater, remodeling a room, or building a website! However, it took me a while to figure out how to translate this quality into a career I truly enjoy. I’ve had an interest in computer programming since middle school. I would stay up almost every night learning the basics of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, while creating small websites that I would almost immediately abandon in favor of creating another shinier, newer website. I just loved the process of building them. Somehow, I never even considered that I could do this as a career, so when it came time to choose a college major, I went with accounting.After earning my bachelor’s degree in accounting, I spent the next several years trying to find my path. This included various accounting positions, detecting fraud and making candy (not at the same time) at Walt Disney World, and even owning my own business selling hand-crafted handbags. Even though some of those jobs were great and I learned many valuable skills, I always felt like I just had a job, not a career.Then, while working in customer service at a software company, I had the opportunity to shadow and collaborate with some of the developers. That was enough to reintroduce me to my love of coding and I decided to enroll in a local in-person coding bootcamp to help pivot my career in that direction.Fast forward to today, and I’ve had 4 years of experience building features for an online banking application used by millions of customers. Not to mention, I finally have a career that excites and challenges me!The tech stack I am most experienced in includes HTML, CSS, Sass, JavaScript, JQuery, Java, Spring, Bootstrap, and Handlebars. I’m also familiar with React, AngularJS, TypeScript, NodeJS, SQL, and Express.js.When I’m not at my computer, I enjoy anything crafty (knitting and calligraphy are my current obsessions), home renovation projects, traveling, and fitness.
