Seconded from Johnson Controls to embed buildings efficiency into Sustainable Cities program

I led the Institute for Building Efficiency, a thought leadership initiative of Johnson Controls providing analysis and information on energy efficiency and sustainability from a practitioner's perspective. I engaged policy makers, academics and other external stakeholders to accelerate the rate of energy efficiency improvement and the transformation to high performance buildings.

• Lead staff negotiator for WRI in the U.S. Climate Action Partnership (U.S. CAP). Facilitated policy workgroups to build consensus positions for the 33 corporate and NGO partners on international components of US policy recommendations and greenhouse gas emissions registry design.• Expanded program from US $3 million to US $6.25 million in three years including three new major foundation grants of over $775,000 each.• Re-organized WRI’s Climate and Energy Program structure due to growth from 14 staff in 2003 to 38 staff in 2008.• Established legislative affairs team to support outreach and education efforts for climate change policy analysis conducted by WRI staff.• Led 16 person team focused on U.S. climate action including strategic project oversight on: cap and trade program design, renewable energy policy and deployment, emissions accounting, and corporate climate change partnerships.• Prepared testimony and responses to inquiries from Congress on climate and energy policy design.• Supported development and implementation of WRI strategic vision on international climate goals and negotiations.

Managing 40+ program of US and international climate and energy specialists with a budget of over U.S. $6 million. Areas of focus include: - low carbon technology analysis and deployment (in the US, China, and globally)- carbon market design - climate and energy policy- business partnerships

On a temporary basis, managed WRI's team focused on entrepreneurship, capital markets research, business education, and green technology.

• Established 8 company partnership, Climate Northeast to complement and link private sector greenhouse gas emissions reductions to support climate policy in the Northeast.• Founded and directed Green Power Market Development Group, the leading national renewable energy collaboration with 12 large companies to build 1000 MW of new, cost competitive renewable energy capacity in the U.S.• Created and authored first MBA ranking of social and environmental content in business education, Beyond Grey Pinstripes: Preparing MBAs for Social and Environmental Stewardship subsequently conducted by the Aspen Institute. • Led development of corporate action agenda for Safe Climate, Sound Business climate change collaboration with Monsanto, British Petroleum, and General Motors, 1998.
