Profile bio

About Jennifer L. Bendle

Passionate materials science engineer with experience in heat treatment, materials testing, and quality control. I participated in a pre-college engineering program partnered with the Ford Motor Company. During their engineering exposition, a metallurgist introduced me to the basic concepts of materials science and I spent most of the day learning about the materials selection of brake pads. On the drive home, I was so excited that I talked nonstop about brake pads. When it was time to enroll for college, I applied to Michigan Tech's Materials Science and Engineering Program. From there, I worked as a materials engineer at Bell Helicopter until the fall of 2011, when I enrolled at the University of North Texas. While taking classes at UNT, I had several part time jobs, including IKEA and Randstad. I am a materials science engineer with a 5-year background in heat treatment of aerospace components and materials testing. I love being hands-on and performing my own testing. I enjoy project work, whether it is process optimization, research and development, or root cause analysis. I also have a green belt in Six Sigma (DMAIC). As a project lead, I have experience maintaining a budget, requesting quotes, and creating purchase orders, as well as developing test plans and providing status updates. I can be reached at jl.bendle@gmail.com or 817.899.8555.

Listed skills include Root Cause Analysis, Engineering, Heat Treatment, Six Sigma, and 6 others.

Quality Assurance Manager

Commerce Plant - Fraser, Michigan

As the Quality Manager at SST’s Commerce Facility, I lead our quality to focus on performance, integrity, and improvement, while providing customer assistance, and supporting both customer and industry audits as needed to maintain our AS9100, TS 16949, and NADCAP Accreditations. I enjoy problem solving and being hands-on, so I have worked diligently to investigate and conduct RCCA to make process improvements that incorporate error-proofing, minimize risk of reoccurrence, and develop training materials. I am also working with our shop personnel to change the focus from corrective actions to preventative actions by conducting introductory training sessions on problem solving, 6Sigma DMAIC, and the associated tools. I've used my past technical writing experiences to modernize, streamline, and in some cases overhauled our internal documents, updating 50+ quality operating procedures and process work instructions in the last calendar year. While I assist with heat treat process cards and rework cycles, I have focused on pyrometry, reviewing and maintaining the pyrometry records (System Accuracy Tests, Temperature Uniformity Surveys, and Furnace Calibrations) for 47 furnaces and freezers.

Apr 2015 - Aug 2018

Process & Project Engineer

Fraser, Michigan

I joined Specialty Steel Treating as a Process & Project Engineer working for both the Commerce & Malyn facilities. One of my first assignments was to revive our internal training programs. I created job-specific training (PPT slides & visual aids), developed tests for the newly hired shop personnel, updated the tests for the metallurgical lab technicians and Rockwell inspectors, and built a digital library for the employee training records. Based on my processing background, I worked closely with both facility quality managers to conduct a DOE on factors contributing to part cleanliness and discoloration during heat treatment. I also supported the metallurgical labs, working with the technicians to conduct investigations on intergranular oxidation, and carbide size and distribution on the small rib outer diameter for rail cones. I re-wrote the pyrometry procedures to incorporate customer requirements and ensure compliance to AMS 2750 for NADCAP and CQI-9 for ISO/TS 16949.

Jun 2014 - Apr 2015

Home Organization Coworker

Frisco, Texas

As a coworker in the home organization department, I helped customers get their houses in order with shoe cabinets, shelves, and boxes. I enjoyed working with customers to design custom organizational solution for their closets and pantries using the Algot system. I was recognized for exceptional customer service as a Customer Service Ambassador.

Lewisville, Tx

I worked as a temp at JP Morgan, creating folders and assembling applicant information.

Feb 2013 - Apr 2013

Senior Engineer - Metallic Materials & Processes Laboratory

Grand Prairie, Tx

I worked in the Metallic Materials & Processes Laboratory at Bell Helicopter's Drive System Center. My primary role was to provide heat treat support. I assisted in the development, testing, and operation of new heat treat computer system and transition of heat treat records from the legacy system. I created and maintained heat treatment processing cards for 9310 carburized gears and drive system components, reviewed furnace process data, and documented quality control tests on carburized parts and samples, These tests included measuring the carbon gradient, surface & core hardness, microhardness, microstructure, and retained austenite. I also worked with the procurement department, performing raw material testing on Pyrowear 53 and 9310 barstock, and conducted several audits for raw material suppliers and heat treat subcontractors. I participated in several research and development projects. I led a project investigating alternative magnesium alloys for gearbox cases; which included managing the budget, creating work statements and purchase requests, developing a test plan, and presenting monthly and quarterly updates. I presented a white paper, “Materials Characterization of Cast EV31A-T6 Magnesium for Rotorcraft Applications”, on the microstructure, grain size, tensile, fatigue, and fatigue crack growth data at the American Helicopter Society International Forum 67. I also provided support for the advanced carburize methods project and the magnesium corrosion study.I wrote laboratory test procedures for the quality buy-off of carburized parts and Bell Process Specifications for heat treatment of steel and chemically assisted superfinishing.I was a certified Green Belt in Textron's Six Sigma/Continuous Improvement Program.

Apr 2006 - Oct 2011

Summer Intern
