I interned in the office of Representative Emilia Strong Sykes (State Representative for District 34), primarily conducting health policy research and addressing constituent concerns.Policy projects included researching the wording of domestic violence laws in each state, writing sponsor testimony for a domestic violence bill (recently signed into law as HB 1 of the 132nd General Assembly), drafting statements on Ohio's infant mortality crisis, writing a policy report on community and domestic violence in Ohio, creating a social media strategy for Intimate Partner Violence Awareness Month, and summarizing testimony from the 2015 Health Efficiency Study Committee.

I conducted literature reviews and calculated the prevalence, costs, and trends of obesity and Type II diabetes in 10 countries, as well as the hospital costs for 6 surgical procedures in 4 countries. During this project, I translated articles and cost data written in French and Portuguese, respectively.After conducting the literature review, I performed a cost-benefit analysis of Ethicon devices compared to competitor products in surgical settings for 6 surgical procedures in 4 countries.I analyzed the data I collected and presented my results to senior staff to use in Ethicon's global health economics and market access strategy.
