My main duties include reviewing batch records for compliance with good documentation practices (GDP) and ensuring data aligns with internal computer tracking systems and inspecting incoming components for producing product. As such I am the SME for GDP compliance, which means I have the opportunity to work with new hires when it comes to teaching GDP. I am part of the team that teaches new hires GDP and develops GDP refresher training for long term employees.

I have worn a few different hats during my time at SiO2 Material Science. The first is as a QC lab tech where I performed analysis of thin films using optical reflectometry and inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy to measure silicon dissolution rates. Other equipment and software used include HIAC 9306+ and PharmSpec Software according to USP methodology. Also during my time I have had the opportunity to review and update our procedures according to change control through our electronic documentation system. During this time I have also had the privilege of training and mentoring junior staff in the proper execution and documentation of analytical tests. The second hat I have donned is that of an environmental lab technician. I have collected both viable and non-viable particles from an ISO 7 cleanroom following standard gowning procedures. Part of this job also includes gram staining colonies and morphologically characterizing the colonies. Again, a large part of this is proper documentation. I have also been responsible for reviewing the data packets for completeness and accuracy in this department. The final hat is perhaps the one that has best fit me during my tenure at SiO2 Material Science. While I am still a lab technician, I have moved into a more administrative position. I spend my days ensuring compliance with good documentation practices and our standard operating procedures. I am also able to complete projects that allow for my fellow team members to efficiently execute their job. Since I have also been trained in completing the analyses needed on a daily basis, I am able to serve as backup for both quality control lab and environmental lab when they are in need of additional support. Attention to detail and flexibility have been key to executing this role effectively.

I have always enjoyed working with people. Customer service was everything. People were my where I got my bread and butter. This position allowed me to learn how to effectively communicate ideas. I was able to use my creativity in different ways to demonstrate products and assure client satisfaction. Part of my education in this position involved receiving a negative reply and learning to use it as a motivator to better things.

I was able to work with a variety of people including professionals completing their own research projects, veterinarians, and concerned pet parents in my position as a test technician while at the clinical pharmacology lab. My position included completing daily tasks ranging from customer service to sample testing. One of my main duties was to serve as back up to the lead for therapeutic drug monitoring. I had to be able to operate the Dimensions XPand Plus, prepare samples for testing, and ensure quality controls were met. Since our samples were whole blood and serum from various animals, I also had to ensure proper safety precautions were in place while handling and disposing of samples. I also had to receive and catalogue samples and record and report results. My second main duty was to serve as a general lab aide. This meant properly cleaning glassware and keeping the lab organized. In the absence of the lab secretary I served as back up: interfacing with clients via email and phone, documenting client payments, and general office duties.
