Through these grants I am able work with the Karen, American Indian, Somali, and Ethiopian communities to reduce health disparities in the areas of tobacco, cardiovascular disease and stroke, and diabetes. The Ghana Health and Education Initiative is a community-based NGO in rural Ghana. GHEI is embedded in Humjibre, Western Ghana and utilizes international volunteers to run "Serve and Learn" programs throughout the summer. These programs include Community Health Evaluation and Girls' Empowerment Camp. As a volunteer coordinator I interviewed and assessed applicants, provided pre-travel training and support, and assisted with program content.
