Currently teach university level classes in Communication Theory such as Fundamentals of Communication, Leadership Communication and Writing Across Media for Dallas Baptist University, having used both traditional face to face methods and on-line learning.Facilitate student learning in subject areas of speech writing, critical thinking skills, organizational communication structure and presentation development. Encourage discussions about how the influx of new media changes the ways we communicate with each other. Review the history of mass communication and theorize the future of the field of journalism and the concept of rhetorical meaning. Incorporate multi-media methods of instruction and hands on learning with smart phones, PowerPoint, portable lap tops, video clips, role-plays and small group assignments. Also developed an upper level course designed to introduce and practice writing skills essential for all aspects of media, including print, television, radio, internet and mobile devices.

Achieved strategic goals set for alumni giving percentage with our team, and reached annual and legacy gift goals as well. Coordinated advancement communication and marketing campaigns in addition to creating content for our annual alumni giving, planned giving, and various appeal initiatives. Our team generates web, print and email based messages supporting our University vision and mission. Living in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, I connect with alumni, former students and friends of Hardin-Simmons University to develop and cultivate relationships supporting HSU's mission to provide an education enlightened by Christian faith and values.

Assisted in re-defining the Chamber and its role in the town of Hondo and its surrounding areas. This organization has been in existence since the 1920’s, and our job was to develop and enhance a community that has been here for over 330 years in a way that speaks to current business owners, city leaders, industries and community members but still honors its traditions and natural resources and characteristics. Oversaw staff, worked with volunteer Board of Directors, Ambassadors, community volunteers and business members in accomplishing the work of the Chamber. Developed strong ties with the City of Hondo and the Economic Development Corporation and other community partners and businesses.Sustained and created communication avenues to the public and members with two weekly newsletters to over 800 recipients as well as a regular article in the local newspaper and occasional speaking engagements with local community volunteer groups. Increased membership by 54% with 50 of them being brand new members. Led groups to plan area-wide festivals where attendance, participation, revenue and pride in our area grew immensely. Re-imagined the community’s biggest festival, Christmas in God’s Country, by doubling the time of festival and events, vendors and participants, introduced the concept of sponsors and successfully secured multiple high-dollar sponsors for the market area, and had the public return to support the event. Some of the comments were, “This is our best Christmas in God’s Country we’ve ever had. I’ve never seen so many people out here." We increased sponsorship revenue by 700%, and increased Membership revenue by 50%, brought back monthly mixers and luncheons and re-introduced professional seminars. Created a healthy relationship between the Chamber, its members, local businesses and the community. Represented and honored the story of Hondo and its people.

Incorporated lecture, on-line labs, multi-media visual aids, role-plays, service learning groups, student interaction and public speeches to develop a dynamic learning environment that is both approachable and challenging. Developed technology aides including power point presentations and an extensive on-line classroom component with discussion boards and assignments. Responsible for all aspects of class, including course design, student conferencing, testing and speech evaluation and assigning of grades. Adapted courses to various text books and publisher-developed online labs. Consistently earned above average student evaluation marks.

Taught university level courses such as Interpersonal Communication, Public Speaking and Business and Professional Speaking. Responsible for all aspects of class, including course design, student conferencing, testing, evaluation and assigning of grades. Designed an on-line classroom component using Blackboard as a supplemental tool for traditional teaching methods and a hybrid-style class, combining face to face and on-line teaching methods. Utilized lecture style teaching as well as activities, labs and group work to stimulate application and retention of communication principles and theories. Participated in opening a new branch of the college.

Served as a public relations officer for the university by promoting, planning and organizing relationship building events for over 21,000 Hardin-Simmons University alumni. Developed off-site meetings for more than 32 alumni chapters across the nation and organized on campus alumni events such as Homecoming, class reunions, Founder's Day observances, faculty appreciation dinners and graduation dinners. Edited and contributed to alumni publications including the alumni magazine, The Range Rider, invitations to special events and the alumni web page. Served as liaison to several volunteer alumni committees and coordinated links between alumni and students to promote traditions and assist in career networking.

Created, executed and monitored all marketing and membership development initiatives including recruitment and retention of area businesses, publication design, advertisement management, public relations and other communication functions. Increased membership by 70% and maintained a 98% retention rate by deriving a dynamic benefits package, leading a membership drive campaign, and managing contact with all 600 members and prospects in positive and proactive methods. Focused on creating tourism opportunities, downtown destinations and relationships with large area employers such as Huguley Hospital, Wal-Mart, Spinks airport, area industrial developers and utilities. Awarded the industry’s top prestigious 1998 National Membership Development Award for Chambers of Commerce after personally constructing written essays and undergoing a series of competitive interviews with other top chambers in the country. Assisted in administration of all chamber services and staff and in addition to relationship building with area businesses also collaborated with local city management, media and school board.
