This organization has been in existence since the 1920’s, and our job was to develop and enhance a community that has been here for over 330 years in a way that speaks to current business owners, city leaders, industries and community members but still honors its traditions and natural resources and characteristics. Oversaw staff, worked with volunteer Board of Directors, Ambassadors, community volunteers and business members in accomplishing the work of the Chamber. Developed strong ties with the City of Hondo and the Economic Development Corporation and other community partners and businesses.Sustained and created communication avenues to the public and members with two weekly newsletters to over 800 recipients as well as a regular article in the local newspaper and occasional speaking engagements with local community volunteer groups. Increased membership by 54% with 50 of them being brand new members. Led groups to plan area-wide festivals where attendance, participation, revenue and pride in our area grew immensely. Re-imagined the community’s biggest festival, Christmas in God’s Country, by doubling the time of festival and events, vendors and participants, introduced the concept of sponsors and successfully secured multiple high-dollar sponsors for the market area, and had the public return to support the event. Some of the comments were, “This is our best Christmas in God’s Country we’ve ever had. I’ve never seen so many people out here." We increased sponsorship revenue by 700%, and increased Membership revenue by 50%, brought back monthly mixers and luncheons and re-introduced professional seminars.
