Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at the San Francisco Art Institute, one of the nation’s oldest and most prestigious schools of higher education in contemporary art, founded in 1871. As a faculty member in the School of Interdisciplinary Studies, for over a decade my scholarship has addressed fine art pedagogies and curricular histories, and the transmission of art practice, including Shared Legacies: Black Mountain College and Post-Studio Art Education presented at Re-Viewing Black Mountain College, the first international conference addressing the impact of BMC at the University of North Carolina, Asheville (October, 2009). I lecture widely on assessment in the visual arts, most recently for the Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design (AICAD) and the College Art Association (CAA). With artist Tania Bruguera I developed the curriculum of the Arte Conducta program at Havana’s Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA), one of the first such performance/conceptual art programs in Latin America. My photographic work Self-Served was published as a frontispiece in Aroused: a Collection of Erotic Writing, edited by Karen Finley (2001). Additional projects include the Licra Project, a collaboration with artist Tony Labat at the 2000 Havana Biennale.
