I’m a mortgage professional with more than 20 years in the industry looking to apply my mortgage analytical skills to a new opportunity. I’ve been a front-line underwriter with the majority of my experience in non-agency loans, and also have agency and sub-prime experience for 17 years combined. My experience includes both wholesale and retail residential loans. Determining the ability to repay, QM and non-QM requirements were a daily task. My most recent experience was in quality review/control for the last 3 years in which I audited the same non-agency loans I had previously been underwriting for the past 10 years. My main focus was on the Exception approval process to reduce the error rate of incorrect exceptions added to loans. My position in quality control gave me a broader understanding on the impact to the company for underwriting errors. I was also able to help drive change to the quality review process making a positive impact to the frontline underwriters. In addition, I underwrote sub-prime for 5 years (prior to the housing crisis) which included alternative doc programs (bank statements, no doc, limited doc). I also contracted for a due diligence company for 6 months in 2008 where I reviewed servicing communication notes and related mortgage documents (forbearance agreements, repayment histories, sheriff sale dates, etc). Although this was a short endeavor, I really enjoyed this investigative work while being able to utilize my experience as an underwriter to provide my expert opinion as to the likelihood of repayment.
