I helped the State of Alaska redesign the way they were using U.S. Department of Education funds to help people who were incarcerated access higher education and plan for their futures after release. I also helped Native Alaska tribes access federal funds for their community development programs. 🔹 Oversaw the Workforce and Community Transition Training for Incarcerated Individuals Grant for the Alaska Department of Corrections conducted training for education coordinators and increased the completion rate of program participants from 17% in 2005 to 85% in 2012 through program redesign and training🔹 Served as Training and Technical Assistance Consultant to Native American Management Services and Summit Enterprises assisting Alaska Native tribal organizations to apply for federal Administration for Native Americans Social and Economic Development and Language Preservation grants🔹 Wrote $1 million+ grant proposal that was approved for Summit Enterprises to become the Alaska regional Training and Technical Assistance Center for the federal Administration for Native Americans

This was one of my favorite jobs. I taught GED and ESL skills to parents of children enrolled in an elementary school with a low socioeconomic demographic. I had a classroom for parents next to the kindergarten. I partnered with the elementary teachers to identify volunteer opportunities for the parents and then I taught the parents the lessons before they went into other classrooms to help their kids as volunteers. This program met a need identified by the family school services provider by increasing access to education for parents.
