Times change and time to move on. With our new partners Acclaim@Capita taking responsibility for HSL's Safety Climate Tool I'm moving back to work with my psychologist colleagues in the Human & Organisational Performance Team. Already lined up working with an organisation to help them develop their culture maturity, facilitating stakeholder engagement workshops on human interaction with collaborative robots and training a new generation of HSE inspectors. The Human and Organisational Performance Team work with business to help organisations improve their management of work related stress, safety culture, safety leadership and behaviour change so interesting times ahead.

I am often asked what an occupational psychologist does. My reply is that we use what we know about how individuals, groups and organisations tick to make the world of work a better place to be in. Working for the Health and Safety Laboratory this translated into making the workplace a healthier, safer and happier environment to work in. If you can get all those things in place then higher performance and financial returns are not usually far behind. My contribution to all this at the lab is to help come up with innovative ideas and solutions to practical problems, facilitating the exchange of tacit knowledge between individuals and groups, collating and analysing data. I have a long standing interest in burnout, emotional labour and cyberpsychology. Current areas of interest include generational differences, extended working lives and the working lives of people working in the renewable energy sector. In my downtime, I am also an Approved Supervisor for the BPS DOP Qualification for Occupational Psychology and an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society to provide mentoring to the next generation of occupational psychologists.
