Jenni has been working in the museum sector for over 15 years. Most recently, she was employed at the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin and the Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek, as Social Media Manager. Prior to that she worked at National Museums Scotland for eight years in various capacities, as well as a freelance museum consultant, specialising in evaluation. Her areas of expertise include survey and questionnaire design, and she is an experienced conference speaker and workshop leader.Jenni holds an MA (Hons) in Scottish Ethnology & English Language from the University of Edinburgh, and an MA in Museum Studies with a focus on museum education from the University of Leicester. During her years training in the museum field she interned with National Museum Wales and the Smithsonian Institution's Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage.Since leaving formal education, Jenni has been continuously pursuing opportunities to further develop her professional skills and experience, both through her work and elsewhere. In December 2009, she was awarded her Associateship of the UK Museums Association (AMA), and later on completed a Certificate in Contemporary Science through the Open University distance learning programme. Visitor Studies/ Audience Research OfficerNational Museums Scotland Apr 2005 - Jun 2011Visitor Studies and Audience Research is a key part of National Museums Scotland's Learning & Programmes Department in looking at the needs and expectations of users and to improve the visitor experience. As Visitor Studies Officer, I was responsible for developing a programme of research into visitor learning through consultation and evaluation before, during and after exhibitions, gallery developments and other projects. I worked across departments and sites, and liaised closely with the Marketing and Communications Department on a museum-wide approach to visitor research and audience development. Aspects of my role included:* Working across different departments and sites.* Undertaking and commissioning research into visitor learning before, during and after exhibitions, gallery developments and other projects.* Communicating findings on visitor learning and behaviour and making recommendations for improving the visitor experience.* Advising on the development of evaluation methods for exhibitions and projects.* Organising and delivering internal & external staff training.* Managing a team of volunteers and several student placements per year.* Maintaining links with external visitor studies partners.In April 2010, the role was renamed 'Audience Research Officer' and moved into the Community Engagement team. Essentially it was the same role as before, but with a greater focus on consultation and audience research with the target audiences that the team works with. -
Social Media OfficerNational Museums Scotland Aug 2009 - Sep 2010Alongside my regular job as Visitor Studies/ Audience Research Officer, I spent one year on secondment working one day a week with the then newly created Digital Media Team. Aspects of my role included: * Sourcing information about social/digital media from the sector & collating examples of good practice. * Understanding more about online audiences and assisting press with audit of our social media footprint. * Assisting the Head of Digital Media in taking forward the overall social media strategy as well as writing the Flickr strategy. * Producing an overall photography policy for NMS (collated from the different NMS sites). * Launching NMS onto Flickr, including setting up a profile, sourcing images for the photostream, setting up groups for each museum site, building relevant contacts and driving traffic to the groups. * Producing Flickr guides (e.g. 'What is Flickr' and 'How to get started on Flickr') for the NMS website. * Setting up guidelines and training for staff to manage the NMS Flickr profile and groups, and introducing 'virtual volunteers' to assist with moderating groups. * Running the 'SnapScot 2009' Flickr pilot project, which included an on site event as part of the Homecoming Scotland Finale event.*Assisting with the development of a Twitter strategy.*Assisting with the development of a blog as well as training workshops for staff. -
