Nidec acquired Control Techniques (from Emerson IA) in February 2017. Whilst the NPD position remains largely unchanged, the organisational strategies differ having closer involvement with risk mitigation and business continuity planning. Increased pressure on cost reduction and ensuring best cost practices mean value engineering projects are also key focus areas. My natural passion for CSR and Environmental issues were utilised to developing the Supplier Code of Conduct, organising a successful Volunteer's Day and being instrumental in setting up an internal Community Focus Group. The internship was based in the Environment and Sanitation Unit of the Ministry. A student colleague and I initiated a sustainable recycling project enlisting 3 primary schools in Accra ('Recycling in Schools').Activities included:Pitching the project; achieving sponsorship from organisations including Nestlé Ghana, The Swiss Embassy, School Health and Education Programme (SHEP), Fanmilk (frozen yogurt manufacturers) and Blowplast (plastics manufacturing)Achieved high profile national media coverage for the pilot programme including television and radio broadcastsNegotiated pricing with Blowplast for collected plastics, generating ongoing income for the schoolsEstablished a secure support network, enabling project continuity.
