“You’ve got the personality for it.” It’s what I’ve been told from several people when I tell them I’m retiring from the Army and want to do something completely different- go into Advertising/Marketing. Here’s the down and dirty.1. I’ve spent 27 years in the military. In that time, I’ve been promoted 9 times. I started as a Private and am wrapping up as Major. I’ve taken advantage of the benefits too. I have a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree that I didn’t have to pay for (not monetarily, anyway). Not to mention, the several Army schools I’ve attended to hone my leadership skills, strategic and creative thinking skills, and a host of other topics.2. Travel. I love to travel. I’ve been to and lived in numerous countries (some more scenic than others) from which, I’ve learned a lot about the world and humans in general (including myself). Some things can’t be taught in the traditional sense; the traits that have been instilled in me through the military cannot be picked up in a Master Class or even with a Master’s degree. It’s an experience I wouldn’t trade for the world.3. I’m stoked to embark on a second career and to learn new things. I’m probably one of the most curious people you’ll meet. I’m excitable, too. I love to have something to be excited about!4. I’m an ENFJ and a smart-ass. I love to have fun and really enjoy practical jokes. 5. You won’t see years of experience in advertising/marketing strategy or a degree in business on my resume. What I offer is a mission accomplishment mindset, ingrained leadership talents, respect for responsibility, ability to evaluate an evolving situation and act effectively in uncertainty, intuition, entrepreneurial spirit, not afraid to ask questions, global perspective, decision making skills and a strong work ethic.
