I am an educator, writer, and thought leader on issues of race, gender, and sexuality, abolition, and young people's politics.I'm an Assistant Professor of Political Science at Syracuse University. I hold a PhD from the University of Chicago where I studied American Politics. My research focuses on Black Politics, racial threat and trauma, policing, social movements, and gender & sexuality. I am the author of Black Women Taught Us: An Intimate History of Black Feminism (Penguin Random House, 2024). My second book, Policing Blackness: The Political Stakes of Intersectional Threat (University of Chicago Press) is planned for release in 2025.I have been featured in a number of public-facing publications such as Yes!
