I have politics in my blood as a descendant of Alexander Hamilton whose name my father shares. I've been writing stories just about as long as I've been riding dirt bikes - since I was 4 - filling diaries about my weekends traveling the country racing dirt bikes with my dad.While I have spent more than 30 years of my life riding dirt bikes, I have developed another passion along the way for storytelling, and both have become what I understand to be my purpose — ever since 7-year-old me walked across stage at the 1992 Young Authors’ Conference in Orlando to accept my first book award and peered out to the packed auditorium.The biggest influence on my decision to pursue journalism came out of my first term paper assignment at the University of South Florida. I was tasked to interview someone about my dream job and write a story, so I arranged an interview with the editor of the first, best and only local rag, Florida Motocross Magazine. Two weeks later at a Starbucks in Tampa, I unveiled my spotless tape recorder, two pens, my notepad and nervous twitch in my right eye and presented my questions to the editor. I listened, scribbled notes and anticipated further questions. One week later, my professor returned my assignment with a giant red “A” scribbled across the front. I made a few small corrections, danced around a lot and forwarded a copy to the editor. It wasn’t 10 minutes later that he replied asking if I wanted a job. From there, I enrolled in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University for a master's degree in journalism with the goal of turning my motorcycle racing passion into a career. From moto photojournalism, publishing a nonprofit motorcycle magazine, public relations for Monster Energy Supercross, a sports media professor at Nebraska, starting my own business and now marketing for Rabaconda, spreading the stoke gets me out of bed every day. My favorite things to do include riding my 2023 GasGas EX250, helping to start, build and market startup entrepreneurial companies, teaching aspiring journalists the power of the First Amendment and working on my memoir to one day top The New York Times Best Seller's List.
