About Jenny Comency
Upon graduating high school I had a general idea that the medical field was the place for me however, I wasn't so sure how I would fit in. I graduated from Onondaga Community College with a Liberal Arts Sciences degree to get as many prerequisites as possible. I then graduation from the University at Buffalo, SUNY with a Bachelors in Exercise Science with a concentration in health promotion and a minor in public health. Initially, I thought the pathway to physical therapy was for me since I was heavily interested in the science behind it. I enjoy all the knowledge I have acquired from this degree however, I realized I wanted to be more involved with patient care. After taking a few months off to travel across the country, I worked at UHS Neurosurgery as a secretary. This was when I realized an office job was not the place for me. I then reached out to shadow a nursing assistant position in Wilson Emergency Department and fell in love with nursing.During my time as a nursing assistant, my grandma passed away suddenly from a brain aneurysm. She really made people feel special. When she worked as a crossing guard, she was always friendly and spoke with everyone. There was one gentlemen who would walk right by her that seemed down in the dumps. She would strike up a conversation with him each time encouraging him to talk about his feelings. It wasn't until months later that he disclosed to her that he was planning on committing suicide and her spirit saved him. Her passing was what led me to apply to nursing school. The nurses that took care of my grandma hold a special place in my heart. They treated her with thoughtfulness and dignity until the end. I have the joy of honoring her memory by becoming a nurse, just like the one's that took care of my grandma.
