Managing and developing community gardens in Glasgow. Delivering environmental education in schools. Running events, volunteer work sessions, community meals and an after school club.

Recruiting, training and supporting volunteers to become involved in promoting Zero Waste Scotland campaigns including Love Food Hate Waste, Stop the Drop and Home Composting.

Won funding from Esmee Fairbairn Foundation to evaluate the impact of a grass-roots local food initiative in a Northern market town. A passionate group of individuals aim to make the town self-sufficient in food by 2018. Evaluated the impact of the group’s activities and made recommendations to the Board. Developed a web-based toolkit for other communities wishing to set up an Incredible Edible campaign. While I was there I also got involved in as many gardening, beekeeping and any other urban agriculture activities as I could!

Supported the Community Land Trust demonstration project across England and Wales. Worked across the higher education, housing and community development sectors. - Assisted and developed 15 community land trust projects to provide affordable housing in perpetuity on community-owned land- Produced policy documents and identified policy and legal barriers to community land trusts- Promoted the suite of tools, guidance documents, funding and bespoke advice available to projects- Gave talks, ran workshops and wrote articles to engage the housing sector and CLT community in the demonstration project- Wrote a series of case studies to highlight how the CLT model works in practice and to identify key lessons learned- Worked to secure further rounds of funding for the demonstration project- Developed the first online community of practice for peer to peer networking and sharing good practice for CLTs- Visited CLTs in Minneapolis and Burlington, Vermont- Conducted an evaluation, published in 2009, which provided evidence of the success of the programme and ensured continued commitment and support of government and the Carnegie UK Trust to community land trusts.- Managed contracts and project managed the production of a short film showcasing the CLT projects

Developing local rural policies and strategies in line with key government and local strategic priorities. Supporting and developing local partnerships, including the Rural Partnership and the Local Access Forum. Providing support to volunteer forum members to develop them in their role as statutory advisors on countryside access.

As a volunteer with SPW, I spent 6 months training farmers and women's groups in sustainable agriculture and appropriate technology - including fuel efficient stoves, composting, and tree nurseries. I learned participatory rural appraisal techniques, and lived and worked alongside Ugandan youth in a remote rural area.
