I am an educator at heart. Spending over 25 years in the field of education, I have worked with young students and adults as a teacher, mentor, facilitator, learner, and ally. I spent 16 years in the classroom teaching 6-12 social studies and ELA. The last 9 years I have spent supporting teachers and administrators in my current role as K-12 social studies and secondary literacy curriculum coordinator, including the last couple of years as a college instructor at both CU Denver and Metro State University. Throughout my career, I have also been writing and publishing curriculum and scholarly work in the fields of social science and education. I obtained my doctorate in educational studies from the University of Northern Colorado. My doctoral research was centered on investigating the multiplicity effect of being female and indigenous in Belize and identifying experiences and relationships that have helped some individuals overcome barriers and become leaders in their communities.
