How we teach students is just as important as what we teach them. At my core I am an educator that believes all students are capable of learning to read. It is our job as their teachers to help them achieve that goal. I strive to be a life long learner myself, and enjoy reading current research on how to best teach reading.Through the course of my career I have had the opportunity to teach 1st grade through 5th grade general education students, as well as work with 7th & 8th grade dyslexic students. I am a Certified Academic Language Therapist. The science of reading has become my passion. I love taking what I know about how to teach students with dyslexia and help teachers apply similar strategies when working with general education students. What is essential for some students is beneficial for all students. I really enjoy helping my fellow teachers fine tune their teaching strategies and incorporate evidenced based practices in their classrooms. I was originally trained in the Multisensory Teaching Approach (MTA) and am also a Wilson Reading System Level 1 Certified Practitioner. When I am not training teachers or working with students I love to curl up with a good book. I spend my time traveling as well as enjoy being home with my family.
