About Jenny Weigle-Bonds

At the age of nine, I created my first community. It was a club for the neighborhood kids to come together for various activities such as riding bikes or playing games in the nearby woods. Little did I know, at the time, that those skills would contribute to the career path I'm in today: working with enterprise brands on their online community strategy. The word "community" could have many meanings from a business standpoint. In my work, Brand Communities are a digital space (usually connected to a brand's website) where customers/fans HELP and inspire one another through PEER-TO-PEER interactions. Two major points of focus in that definition of a Brand Community: 1) The peer-to-peer aspect is what differentiates an online community from a social media community. On a social media community, a follower can’t start a public conversation with a brand. Only the brand can kick things off with a post, and then followers can chat and interact in the comments. But with a peer-to-peer community, a member can ask a question at any time, and the rest of the community can respond at any time. For example, a member could say “Could someone help me understand the best way to use product XYZ?” 2) Another differentiator of a brand community is that there is typically a subgroup of members who are eager to HELP someone else. Without that subgroup, and that inclination, you'd be stuck with a lot of unanswered questions. It's because of these members that solutions are provided, valuable content is added, and connections are formed. Every day I wake up in gratitude and somewhat disbelief that I'm able to make a career out of helping others build community and connections. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you're in need of this guidance for your brand.
