I provide communications, engagement, and marketing consultancy to organisations large and small in scholarly publishing.

Leading a team of 5 directs and a cross-functional team of 70 volunteers, I was responsible for driving engagement and best practice with our external journal editors to meet business objectives. Cross-channel outreach included blogs, closed community and resource site, webinars, in person conferences, workshops, newsletters, and targeted communications. The program drove alignment and engagement with Wiley strategy with a focus on both internal and external communication.

I designed and built a programme of communication, events, and training to drive strategic alignment and best practice with external journal Editors-in-Chief.

Working across all Wiley businesses, I was responsible for embedding a culture of targeted and integrated content marketing across the business, ensuring use of customer personas, customer experience, SEO, customer journey and other modern marketing techniques to drive lead generation and reputation. I was also responsible for joining up our content marketing activities to deliver Wiley's brand messages to our diverse audience range, and optimising the value and effectiveness of content. This involved educating colleagues on content marketing strategy and creation; troubleshooting challenges and new requirements; and consulting on each business area’s strategy and approach.

Responsible for joining up Wiley’s Global Research business’ event strategy, running top level events and providing toolkits, content, and guidance for other events to ensure all are on message, promoted, and evaluated. Identify conferences attended by key audiences, create content to pitch to the programme, and secure buy-in from colleagues to take part ensuring high level visibility. Managing our advisory networks with key audiences and developing on-going relationships and communications. Key achievements: annual event in Washington, DC, achieved highest ever satisfaction rating from attendees; created events database, and ‘ambassador map’ to identify colleagues, areas of knowledge and topic owners.

Project managed the development of our ‘Changing World’ campaign, involving colleagues from across the business to create a blog, create a regular information flow to global colleagues, instigate regular social media activity with new and innovative content, and design and implement communications campaigns. Key achievements: managed a market research agency to conduct perception research with our key audiences; ran a campaign to promote a technology project which led to the highest accessed blog posts and positive discussion on twitter; built an evaluation dashboard to track key metrics against targets across all comms activities.

Responsible for the media outreach of all products published in Wiley’s Scientific, Technical, Medical and Scholarly (STMS) business (1,500+ journals and c.1,500 books annually), managing a team of 6 across the UK and US. Reorganised the team to increase output thereby enabling us to provide more media outreach, instigating a ‘News Round-Up’ to provide in-brief stories, and a regular newswire for books increasing efficiency and effectiveness. Other key achievements: launched a new press room; instigated a new embargo and mailing policy leading to 1,800 journalists signing up within 6 months; negotiated rates on several contracts and identified new providers; standardised PR practice throughout global team; initiated regular reporting; increased coverage of Wiley-Blackwell brand within key industry media, and coverage of products globally in new and old media; led implementation of Chinese media outreach to increase coverage in growing market.
