The Riparian Project is a public art initiative that aims to influence a shift in grazing practices in Victoria to improve river health - in other words we’re using art to encourage positive change. Unrestricted livestock in rivers is the biggest barrier to improving river health in Victoria. Our transdisciplinary team is unique - an artist, a lawyer and an engineer. We work with partners and community members to talk about river health and creative ways to change practices. This is an old and weathered problem (since colonial times) that we believe needs a bit of creativity and community engagement to generate change. We do this through strategic community engagement activities including tours, workshops, presentations and the design & development of a public art project in conjunction with the rural communities we work with. My responsibilities include:- The development and design of public art projects and online creative media including preparing design briefs, conducting feasibility studies, managing budgets and working with contractors- Co-design and facilitation of urban and rural engagement strategies including community workshops and forums as well as managing ongoing communication with external stakeholders, partners and community members (e.g. Shire of Murrundindi, DEPI, local catchment management authorities, Aboriginal elders, Land Care, etc.)- Co-project management including: strategic planning, risk assessments, conducting research and developing partnerships for resource sharing and organisational growthWe are currently working in the community of Yea, Victoria to create a permanent public artwork in the Yea Wetlands - an area once used for agricultural grazing. The artwork will be installed in 2015.
