As Director of the Water Center, I provide intellectual and programmatic leadership for our mission to foster collaborative research that informs the policy and management decisions affecting our nation’s Great Lakes and coastal estuarine waters. I work with faculty to develop multi-sector, multidisciplinary teams that address cross-sector water resource issues. I network with regional partners from the public, private, non-governmental sectors helping integrate them and their perspectives into project teams. I also oversee staff implementing the National Estuarine Research Reserve System’s Science Collaborative program: including development of requests for proposals; design and conduct of technical/peer and practitioner review; and project implementation and reporting.

I led overall GLOS management and operations, and provided stewardship of resources in response to direction set by a multi-sector Board of Directors, including oversight of all financial functions (audit, budget, payroll) and the development and oversight of Board policies and procedures, human resources management, contracts and grants management. I led development of current and long-term organizational goals and objectives as well as operational policies and procedures.

Member of program Management Team that provided: intellectual leadership; strategic planning; policy development/implementation; partnership cultivation. Direct administrator of professional staff with financial, communication and education functions; directed Sea Grant research portfolio.
