I present two different perspectives to corporate clients: On one hand, that of a long-standing banker with topics such as financing, corporate finance and M+A with legal and deal experience accordingly. On the other hand, that of the board member and CFO of a large listed healthcare company. In all my mandates a transformation of the business model and turnaround of the underlying P+L played a key part. In addition to the necessary technical expertise, “emotional intelligence” plays a major role when it comes to unplanned changes in corporate strategy and their implementation. There is often pushback from stakeholders that you need to be prepared for and which must also be taken into account during implementation. If employees, customers or owners are located outside of Germany, it is helpful to have someone in charge who has international experience. In addition to my global banking activities, my many years of living in England, the USA and several countries in the Mediterranean region have certainly helped me in this respect. Today, I am particularly interested in mandates that require creativity and local commitment. This can either be for a transformation over a few years or a limited commitment for certain projects - both in Germany and in other European countries. How such mandates are organized is only of secondary importance. While I am not interested in a career path or pension plan, it is relevant that the structure of the mandate has clear reporting lines, overall positive attitude of the decision makers and the potential to be successful is clearly there.
