Jens Schoene, Ph.D., is the Director of Research Studies at EnerNex. His areas of expertise are the transient and harmonic analysis of power systems, distributed generation interconnection studies, induction studies, lightning studies, and arc flash studies. His research at the International Center for Lightning Research and Testing (ICLRT) at the University of Florida involved the interaction of lightning with power distribution lines, grounding systems of residential houses and explosive storage bunkers, and aircrafts. Jens was part of a team at the High-Voltage Laboratory of the University of Applied Sciences in Soest, Germany, that designed and built a generator to simulate multiple lightning surge currents and voltages. This project earned Jens and his team the Adam-Herbert Award for outstanding accomplishments in the lightning protection area.Jens published eight scientific papers as main-author and ten scientific papers as co-author in peer-reviewed journals. He is the main-author or co-author of over 25 conference proceedings. He is actively involved in the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Power and Energy Society (PES) 'Wind Plant Collector System Design' Working Group and the 'Stray and Contact Voltage' Working Group. Jens is the Vice Chair of the IEEE PES 'Lightning Performance of Overhead Lines' Working Group.
