Jen Steer spent nearly 15 years working in local news. Now, she's onto a new chapter of her professional life as the media relations manager of the world-renowned Cleveland Orchestra.For eight years, Jen was a digital producer at FOX 8 News, writing stories for FOX8.com, planning social media strategy and curating homepage content. During her time at FOX 8, she covered four NBA Finals, the 2016 World Series, 2016 Republican National Convention, the 2019 MLB All-Star Game and the 2022 NBA All-Star Game.She spent a year as a community engagement specialist for the Northeast Ohio Media Group, representing cleveland.com, The Plain Dealer and Sun News.For four years, Jen was a web producer at NewsChannel5, where she won several awards from the Society of Professional Journalists and the Ohio Associated Press. She also received an Edward R. Murrow Award for her coverage of serial killer Anthony Sowell.In 2013, Jen helped break the news that Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight were found alive in the Cleveland house of Ariel Castro. She discussed the kidnappings live with Anderson Cooper on CNN, appeared on BBC’s morning show and provided updates to radio stations around the globe.Before that, she as an internet content producer at WTHI in Terre Haute, Indiana. While she mostly worked on daily news stories, she devoted a lot of her time to covering the unhoused population in the region.She studied broadcast journalism at Kent State University and graduated in 2008.
