Following the completion of my mandatory schooling I decided to further my education by taking A levels, before completing my degree in accountancy and information technology at the University of Sunderland. During my degree I used my free time to help my local area and indulge my passion for conservation by becoming a volunteer for the Northumberland Wildlife Trust. I found this experience to be very rewarding as I engaged with the communities, introducing many people to the often overlooked and underappreciated green spaces on their doorstep. On completion of my degree my passion for the environment had inspired a change in career path. I then studied to gain a post graduate qualification while volunteering as a Park Ranger. During this time I was able to become involved in educational trips to schools and found I had both a love, and a talent for environmental education. So much so that when I was offered a full time position, I jumped at the chance to expand my understanding of the natural world.I was responsible for managing a number of local projects. This included applying for and using funding from a variety of sources, understanding of traditional land-management practices, establishing working relationships with partner agencies and community groups. As an experienced officer my communication skills have lead to great project results both managing land and people. My enthusiasm and passion to help people improve has impressed previous employers and has helped volunteers gain confidence to take steps towards their goals. Everyone I have worked with has influenced the way I work and helped me develop essential skills to manage projects well. I am currently exploring future options for starting my own environmental education business focusing on forest schools ethos. I loved my previous roles working with children and adults outdoors, learning practical skills and about the environment. Bring on the next two years of fun!

Forest School Practioner - Self EmployedRoots To Branches Sep 2017 - Jul 2021Warton, England, United KingdomAside from being fun? Forest School is increased confidence and wellbeing. It’s learning brand new skills in an alternative, child led learning experience. Extensive research has shown that children who experience outdoor play and learning are healthier, have more motivation and better social skills.During the sessions your child will learn about tree and plant life and how to protect them, fire safety, campfire cooking, safe use of tools and woodland crafts to name a few. These new skills teach confidence, responsibility, empathy, tolerance, compassion and independence. Our Forest Schools are all year round and in all weather (within reason) and are forboth children and adults alike.
