Associate Director Of Career Edu. (Pre-Health | Student Athletes | Grad/Phds | Diverse Communities)Colorado State University Jun 2017 - Jan 2019Fort Collins, Co, Us🐏 My time serving as the Associate Director of Career Education has been a wonderful experience as I enjoy greatly innovative/strategic thinking, collaboration + relationship development, and large scale initiatives that impact student success & retention. I recently led an initiative to introduce and infuse career readiness into the campus through a large scale signature event. I invited William Shewfelt, the current Red Power Ranger on Nickelodeon's Ninja Steel, who is a former advisee of mine, to speak on career readiness and goal planning. The event was wildly successful and I attribute it the formula of making career accessible through pop culture + easy to understand career language/goal-setting. 🐏 I also enjoy managing our career coaching program, diversity outreach initiatives, and managing wonderful + competent professional staff. Together we will serve nearly +5000 students/alumni through out the year and that doesn't include the all-career center events. 🐏 Lastly, I've enjoyed on-boarding and introducing the campus to a variety of career technologies which include Portfolium, Big Interview and Traitify. These three career technologies help our students become career ready and I'm appreciative of the user experience that went into designing these helpful tools. -
Career Advisor | Pre-Health & Experiential LearningUniversity Of California San Diego May 2015 - Jun 2017La Jolla, Ca, Us🔱 This position has enabled me to wear a variety of hats and operate between both health advising and career advising. My passions for this position include being an instructor and teacher for the Human Development Program: Career Development course (HDP98), where I assist students with exploring career development topics like how to market yourself using a resume+cover letter+Portfolium, how to identify meaningful career options using such assessments as Strengths Finder+MBTI+Traitify, how to enhance communication skills using an interactive interviewing platform Big Interview, and how to effectively network and market ones skill sets using such platforms as LinkedIn+Alumni Advisor Network. 🔱 Additionally, my passion for student success aligns nicely with my passion for individual and group advising. Helping students to strategically plan out their career goals is something I find incredibly rewarding and I enjoy even more so celebrating their milestone success points. For my health students, helping them identify GAPs in their application and how to improve those areas of their health professional application is also a meaningful component to the type of work I get to do. 🔱 Lastly, this role has enabled me to utilize my creative strengths in designing and publishing an instructional design workbook. This tool serves as a resource guide to both students and professional staff and has been distributed to over 10,000 students. The Triton Career Guide coaches students on twelve career readiness competencies, aligns these competencies with resources that will assist them in their development, and allows professional staff to learn about the diverse tools the Career Center can provide in order to assist them with their own students they work with.Go Tritons! -
Area Coordinator For The Health Professsions | Career AdvisorNova Southeastern University Jul 2011 - May 2015Fort Lauderdale, Fl, Us🦈 This role was an impactful one because it helped me to develop strong supervision skills as I directly supervised and trained 10 Graduate Student Resident Assistants, 1 Student Affairs Graduate Assistant and 20 Front Office Staff workers. This role also allowed me to utilize my strong organization abilities to coordinate housing assignments and the administrative operations of a 400 student, co-ed graduate student apartment complex. The unique thing about this position was I got to oversee a beautiful resort style housing facility with a pool which required a unique training component and administrative tasks given the unlikely living conditions for university students. While in this position I oversaw and developed the functions required to run the facility which included room condition reports, maintenance requests, incident reports, disciplinary conduct reports and room change requests.Career Advisor | Office of Career Development🦈 In this role I had the opportunity to educate students in proper methods and techniques to showcase their experiences through their resume and cover letters in order to be used as strong marketing documents for jobs they may apply for. Additionally, I facilitated various assessments such as: MBTI (Certified Practitioner), MyPlan, Strong Interest Inventory and Knowdell Career Values, with students in order to provide them with a sense of direction and empowerment towards reaching their educational and career goals. And lastly I enjoyed the communication development with the students I advised. Through advising appointments I would conduct mock interviews with students in order to assess their ability to communicate verbally, and non-verbally in both informal and professional settings.Go NSU Sharks! -
Assistant Residence DirectorColorado State University Jul 2009 - Jul 2011Fort Collins, Co, Us🐏 The Assistant Residence Director position served as a great developmental experience while a graduate student. It laid a foundation for me to learn more about my supervisory style and it also assisted with learning the necessary components of what it takes to hire, train, supervise and evaluate a 12 person student staff. Overseeing the engineering living learning community also helped me understand and assess the student needs based on program and interests areas. Developing programs and events that would resonate with the engineering student population became a fun challenge to address and during my time in the position I had a few events that had over 3/4 of the building in attendance (300 of 400 residents). Lastly, this position became critical in assisting me with counseling students towards strong decision making. Due to students violating university policy, this resulted in many 1 on 1 meetings with students where I helped them reflect upon why they made the decisions that they did and how those decisions possibly could be avoided in the future. This experience laid a foundation for my future passion for advising students towards their goals; specifically career goals.Go CSU Rams! -
Intern - Academic Student AffairsUniversity Of California, San Francisco May 2010 - Jul 2010San Francisco, California, Us🐻Interning at UCSF was a transformational experience. Being at UCSF, one of the top health professional schools in the country taught me a great deal about what strong student support services look likes. At UCSF many of their students struggle with the imposter syndrome where they feel they aren't smart enough to be at UCSF or that they won't be successful there, and breaking down that internalized myth was an important one to address. I created a series of campus videos for UCSF social media marketing collateral which promoted student tips on how to be successful as a graduate student at UCSF. The videos were a hit and students found the content to normalize their experience at this high achieving institution.(🐻=while the bear isn't UCSF's official mascot, they do have famous statues on campus of bears.)
