Bringing Project Teams together to deliver mostly multi-family projects: from mixed use wood (housing) over precast podiums with amenities and commercial spaces to high-rise post tensioned concrete structures. I enjoy working with clients to help them materialize their visions. Internally we are building on past sustainable projects and working to elevate our level of sustainability across all projects.Past projects:C & E Flats / St. Paul, MN: http://www.ce-flats.com/Washington Square / Sioux Falls, SD: http://www.washingtonsquaresf.com/Custom House / St. Paul, MN: http://www.chstpaul.com/

Converted a former 740,000 SF post office into a historic re-use mixed development. Used Revit as the design software with laser scan of the existing conditions. The Leica TruView was surprisingly as or possibly even more useful than the point cloud itself. I'm was excited to work with all of our disciplines: architecture, interiors, structure, mechanical, & electrical kicking the tires on Revit 2014.With the departure of a great counterpart in IT, the timing was right to turn over the reins of the day-to-day support of our Revit platform and focus more on project work and special projects related to unique uses of Revit as a design tool.

In 2012 we started all new project work in Revit Architecture with structural the first discipline to follow besides interiors. At the end of 2012 we started a pilot project with our mechanical and electrical disciplines. Much effort was expended in 2013 improving our architectural template and building up our engineering experience. We also added our landscape discipline to a comprehensive multi-discipline Revit platform. Besides new project work, we also began using Revit on remodeling/existing building projects. It was rewarding to see all our disciplines beginning to benefit from the cross coordination capabilities of Revit. As much of our project work focused on multi-family housing a lot of our Revit development was focused on building content & processes to reinforce our standards and make Revit more efficient for us. I enjoyed supporting project teams that were relatively new to Revit and had a wide range of involvement from project setup to full production drawings as required.
As CAD Manager, I developed a CAD/Standards manual for AutoCAD Architectural Desktop 2007; published tip sheets on our Intranet and held monthly to quarterly training (separate) sessions for architects, interior designers, structural, electrical, & mechanical engineers. I continued to build up custom tool palettes and migrate legacy tools to balance productivity gains of the 'new' tool with years of proficiency gained with legacy tools. Due to the fairly high amount of customization and marginal annual incremental improvement we have only upgraded CAD once to AutoCAD Architecture 2011.
The departure of a great colleague left a chance to realign IT as not just a support function, but an integral part of our company bringing all technology under the same umbrella of Design Technology or more simply Business Technology. I continued to hold the CAD Manager position that was already beginning to implement other design technologies like Revit and expanding the scope of 'CAD' to include energy modeling applications and an even wider look at how other applications from survey software to MS Office can be used to support the design processes and business objectives of our company.
Significant non-commercial project experience has allowed me to work with clients who are long-range minded. I've enjoyed a range of project opportunities to work on aspects that improve the experience for the user--creating healthy, well lit, enjoyable buildings while limiting the building's impact on the environment as well. As a design professional, I believe we have a responsibility to design well--not necessarily 'green' or 'sustainable'. Good design shouldn't be so confined by a label, but described by a series of these traits. During this period of time at BKV my experiences ranged from specializing in 3D rendering in CAD and presentation graphics in Photoshop to all aspects of a typical Design-Bid-Build construction process. I was fortunate to have a very broad range of experience across multiple project types through multiple phases including construction administration work. The most significant portion of the projects I worked on were municipal centers and other government buildings.
