As a member of the NBC News data journalism team, I created data visualizations for individual stories, built scrapers to compile datasets, and created interactive graphics for election coverage. I also built newsroom applications and tools to help us publish graphics more quickly.* Pitched weekly stories for data focused, original reporting. The 18F engineering team is a distributed team responsible for delivering high quality, robust, open source software to agencies of the Federal government. I was an individual contributor to many projects for different agency partners as well as a technical leader on my project teams. I advocated for performant interfaces, improved through quick iteration and frequent user testing.* Developed accessible web applications for the EPA, GSA, and the FBI to publish open data sets.* Made framework and technical decisions as the lead front end developer for a number of projects, including the Crime Data Explorer developed in partnership with the FBI.* Advocated for and led the implementation of agile principles such as continuous deployment and robust test coverage to allow for low cost, high confidence releases.* Championed a successful effort to open source some of 18F's internal documentation.* Active member and contributor to the 18F front end team, leading workshops, trainings, and discussions about modern techniques, web APIs and building consensus around astandard set of tools and practices.
