Houghton, Michigan

This semester long position is focused on the installation of a stream discharge measuring instrument, and a weather station in the Huron Creek in Houghton, MI. The goal is to be able to access the data remotely. The end result of this project will provide real time data for educational purposes to show the relationship between weather and streamflow.

Saginaw, Michigan

This summer’s internship provided me with a broad range of experiences. I performed preliminary design calculations, and drafted contract documents for a fast track project at the Jackson County Fair Grounds to prevent fecal matter from being washed into the Grand River during a rain event. This was a great opportunity as I was able to see the entire project from start to finish. Additionally, I reviewed plans of proposed developments to ensure compliance with local storm water management plans. I also assisted with tasks such as dam inspections, the creation of maintenance plans for Best Management Practices, and the submittal of MDEQ Joint Permit Applications.

Houghton, Michigan

My summer internship primarily revolved around the work associated with Section 197 of the Wayne County Drain Code. This involved field verifying the watersheds for each County Drain, then drafting this information into ArcGIS. In order for these updates to the drainage districts could be legal, a Day of Review was necessary in order to answer any questions that the affected land owners may have. I had the opportunity to work with my supervisors during this process.

I was in charge of quality control and quality assurance of the materials that are being used on a construction site. My tasks included asphalt density testing, soil density testing, and concrete testing. With each job I worked on, I had to fill out a report showing the results of the tests taken that day. These reports are then given to the client for their records.
