In my role as Regional Head of Physical Security for the Middle East and North Africa (HSBC) I was responsible for, and regularly travelled to, the dozen countries within my Regional remit. These countries included all of the GCC States, as well as Egypt, Algeria, Jordan and Iraq.During these country visits I completed surveys and risk assessments of all our Regional Head Offices and Iconic buildings, delivering recommendations and mitigations against discovered and perceived risks and threats, mainly of a Counter Terrorist and Anti Public Disorder nature.I also delivered training to my Physical Risk country managers and their teams. This training was practical, hands-on and was often extended to senior elements of our outsourced security providers.I pioneered a new invacuation system or 'shelter in place ' methodology, and also a new method of Mitigating the risk of Electronic Eavesdropping. These systems, and others I incepted, have been successfully adopted across the entire MENA region.One of the highlights of my job was ensuring the safety, security and wellbeing of our multinational expatriate cadres, serving across the majority of my jurisdictions. I was able to conduct 'lifestyle audits' concerning these 'front line' actors and accordingly develop personal mitigation steps for them, based on their seniority, travel regimes and accommodations, both residential and commercial.As a Senior Regional Manager I was also required to operate from our Head Office in The UAE. During these times I was able to input 'hands on' into the security of our assets across the Seven Emirates, as well as administer my region from a compliance, governance and reportage perspective.

I was, until recently promoted, the Risk Consultant / Counter Terrorist Officer at HSBC's, Saudi Arabian based operation in Riyadh (The Saudi British Bank - SABB) since the Al Qaeda inspired, residential compound bombings back in 2003. During my tenure with SABB I have been deployed by them 'on loan' to their parent HSBC companies across the globe. Generally these assignments have taken me to various areas of conflict, and have included counter terror operations and duties in Sri Lanka, during the LTTE emergency, India in the wake of the LET attack on Mumbai, and deployments to Pakistan and Indonesia, mainly in connection with counter terrorist issues. More recently I have been working across the Middle East, mitigating the risks posed by the so called, 'Arab Spring' unrest, and, also delivering the Close Protection Course I designed specifically for our International Bank Security Teams, with great success in Hong Kong and Mexico City. I am an expert a implementing ex pat security, travel and protection regimes in 'difficult,' and sometimes, hazardous, jurisdictions, and, also conducting fast and accurate security surveys and the relevant risk scoring on iconic buildings, human assets, facilities and systems under threat from terrorist activity. I have also been heavily involved with BCM process / K and R strategy / Country Evacuations (Ex pat) / Contingency planning (at group and local level), during my service with HSBC.I am one of the HSBC third Party bullion vaulting inspectors and was instrumental in creating the global compliance document upon which all such inspections are now based.

I am a decorated veteran of the Rhodesian Terrorist war involving ZANLA and ZIPRA terrorist forces during the mid to late 1970's. I joined the force from the UK as a Regular (contract) Officer and served in uniform briefly before joining the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) where I served successfully as both undercover narcotics officer and Homicide Detective before being asked to join Special Branch where I assumed command of Northern Matebeleland, based out of Victoria Falls as Member In Charge SB there. During my tenure in the BSAP I spent four years of my service on forward base camps across the various operational areas, engaged on Anti Terrorist Operations, gaining a wide spectrum of operational counter insurgency experience.
