I am proud to serve on the board of directors for the Emerald Cities Collaborative (ECC). ECC is a national nonprofit network of organizations working together to ensure that high-road (sustainable, just and inclusive) economies and opportunities for all are a central priority in the transition towards green and resilient communities. ECC develops energy, green infrastructure and other sustainable development projects that not only contribute to the resilience of our metropolitan regions but also ensure an equity stake in the green economy for low-income communities of color. This includes developing the economic infrastructure for family-supporting wages and career paths for residents of such communities, as well as contracting opportunities for women, minority, and other disadvantaged businesses.The organization's three-part mission is to 1) Green Our Cities; 2) Build Our Communities; and 3) Strengthen Our Democracy.

I was responsible for business administration for the US subsidiary of this innovative company that is leading on high-performance solutions for green, resilient, and smart housing.

With Etopia, I led the go-to-market strategy, logistics, business planning, design development, and project execution for an innovative UK technology and homebuilding company working to mainstream smart, quality, high-performance homes. Etopia is a provider of high-efficiency structural insulated panels, smart sensors and controls, and sustainability solutions for a streamlined high-performance building outcome. Etopia USA is a subsidiary of the parent company, Project Etopia Group Ltd, that is continuing to innovate and build exciting solutions in the UK.

I have several people in my personal and professional life who have struggled with cancer. I am overjoyed to have been part of Luke’s support team as he shared his inspiring message and story with the world. I served as press officer while also helping with strategy, fundraising, partnerships, and other things here and there. Luke had already taken me running all over England, Spain, and the Netherlands and had motivated me to maintain my fitness and eat more healthily. By joining his pit crew, I aimed to return the favor, helping Luke fulfill his dream while amplifying his story and maximizing his impact.

For more than a decade, USGBC entrusted me to support, manage, and lead government relations, advocacy, and a wide variety of policy and market-facing activities to green our built world across the United States. In regular contact with US governors, mayors, and state/local government officials of all kinds, I worked hard to find common ground with USGBC's vast network of business members and enact solutions that would accelerate the green building marketplace and enhance community resilience in the face of climate change.I am proud to have also led USGBC's topically relevant work on water through the WaterBuild summits at Greenbuild and on resilience, alongside ULI and NLC partners, through the Resilient Cities Summit. I am also proud to have served as a key member of the Center for Green Schools at USGBC, leading the Center's work on green schools policymaking and outreach to state and local lawmakers on grant-funded projects.As a spokesman for the organization, I facilitated hundreds of meetings, delivered many dozen presentations, authored more than 50 blogs, keynoted 3 conferences, and was quoted on radio and in print media related to USGBC's market transformation and policy work. In addition, I've led or co-authored several research papers on green building performance and policy, and have published work in Living Architecture Monitor, the ASHRAE Journal, and Green Schools Catalyst Quarterly.

I charted USGBC’s work on greening the building codes, leading to various policy successes and the emergence of the International Green Construction Code (IgCC). Working closely with building science and regulatory experts across the country, I have worked strategically on green building code development, adoption and implementation in local, state and national forums.

A national network of thousands of building industry professionals and advocates trusted me for guidance and thoughtful materials to advance the green building agenda, a role I maintained throughout my USGBC tenure.

My first position at USGBC offered me the opportunity to cut my teeth on green building advocacy while supporting the amazing network of leaders at the top of the U.S. Green Building Council. While fairly administrative, these trusting relationships quickly become critical levers in my work and have served as supportive mentors and allies in my career in service of sustainability.

During my 18 months as project manager with altPOWER (June 2004 - Sept. 2004; June 2005 - Aug. 2006), I supervised over 1.5 MW of photovoltaic projects, or enough to power 400 homes. After gaining experience working with a number of clients and building experience with solar-electric system design and installation, I took on the role of project manager to drive several large projects (and an off-grid, hybrid, solar/wind project) to swift and successful completion. On the job, I learned to manage budgets, sales, personnel and problem resolution as chief liaison with contractors, suppliers and regulators.

Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the northeastern edge of Amazonia lies a small, unregarded piece of France where I taught English for one year (Adams, 1979). I learned from a diversity of challenges teaching 300+ students across 5 elementary schools about diligence, commitment, creativity, and perseverance in this hot, humid, and foreign land.

Earning the trust of the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures, I was asked to fill a gap in the University's course offerings by designing and teaching a course teaching practical French. I taught a group of one dozen university students for the spring semester.

I linked up with the altPOWER start-up in 2000 as the company's first non-owner employee. In between college terms (predominantly during the summers of 2000 - 2003) I supported solar installations as well as sales, procurement, planning and client relations. As the company began to take on bigger jobs, I was asked to join as a full-time member of the altPOWER team as project manager, beginning in June of 2004.

The Maintenance Department of the town DPW is an elite crew of three full-time staff (electrician, carpenter, and managing engineer) that relied on my support for three consecutive summers as I learned various skills as an apprentice in facilities and grounds management. I was also entrusted with my own truck, Highway #17, equipped with CB radio and a 300 gallon water tank and a pump and hose to take care of curbside planted landscapes.
