While working as an Information Assurance Officer in the Kingdom of Bahrain, I had the unique opportunity to lead the redesign, implementation, and management of an advanced communication system for the United States Marine Corps. I was responsible for devoloping information assurance and cyber network defense reporting procedures to include patching (WSUS & third-party), security compliancy levels, and McAfee Host Based Security System (HBSS) enforcement. While operating in this position, I worked in tandem with my supervisory Information Assurance personnel for the development of the information systems security policy. I also collaborated with system administrators and managers to identify shortfalls in operation procedures and create improved methods. A few of my daily duties consisted of monitoring and auditing network activity for all systems, users, and administrators by analyzing network device logs (ACL’s), firewalls and network intrusion detection systems, and HBSS. I also worked closely with management personnel and the program office to ensure that outdated programs were updated kept in standard with United States Department of Defense Information Assurance Policies. In addition to security management, I also provided escalated technical support to administrators of complex system architecture.

Cyber Network Defense Technician

As a cyber network defense technician, I was the primary system security administrator for over 50 different enterprise-level networks consisting of architectures comprised of over 10,000 users and 6,000 data networking and computing assets. I was responsible for implementing successful integration and utilization of Public Key Enterprise (PKI) systems within multiple stateside environments, as well as foreign deployed networks. I installed, configured, and managed McAfee's Host Based Security System (HBSS) throughout each network, to include Host Intrusion Prevention System (HIPS), VirusScan Enterprise, Data Loss Prevention, and Rogue System Detection modules. Some of the other security tools that I worked with were the Marine Corp's Deployed Security Interdiction Devices (DSIDs), consisting of Cisco routers, Fortinet firewalls and intrusion detection systems (UTM, VPN, traffic policies), and Syslog servers. Some of my other duties also included responding to network security events and utilizing forensic analysis methodologies for investigations. I was also responsible for delivering required information security training to over 15,000 users.

As a network administrator for the United States Marine Corps, I ensured the successful network establishment in over 60 environments, to include data systems within heavily armored tracked units, amphibious watercraft, and aircraft. During this period, I was a member of a team that pioneered the implementation of complex local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN) data systems in Department of Defense. A few of my other experiences included providing training to management personnel and subordinates regarding operation of data systems and working extensively with testing and evaluation groups on the implementation of new information technology solutions within the enterprise. I also led a team consisting of 60 communication personnel in the design, construction, implementation, and management of a network infrastructure at a international site currently being utilized by multiple different countries.
