At Caliper Corporation we were building the next generation of tools for recruitment, hiring, training, and employee retention using advanced personality assessments. My responsibility as software architect was design and coordination of implementation of our platform, as well as implementation of the data science tools.My experience at Vulcan involved leveraging emergent ML / AI technologies to solve difficult environmental issues and increase the global quality of life. My primary focus was applying machine learning to conservation efforts for wildlife in Africa and to combat illegal fishing of the oceans.My experience at ARO, Inc. included use of geofencing technologies and recommendation engines utilizing statistical machine learning to provide a useful and reliable mobile application. As the Director of Engineering I was responsible for the entire services development team setting and achieving product milestones.Prior to 2012 I worked primarily in statistical natural language, during which time I was a key contributor in building LCC's open-domain automatic question answering systems, as well as the primary developer of the textual inference framework. I was also primarily in charge of the acquisition, processing, and indexing of data for Swingly, a web-scale question answering engine. My graduate coursework completed during that time was also been strongly focused on NLP and intelligent systems development.
