About Jeremy Brook

The story so far… Born and educated in Sydney, discovered the power of brands and marketing technology in London only to move back to Australia to lead the digitization of one of Australia’s most creative agencies. Then on to Amsterdam where I worked across three amazing global brands: Adidas, Heineken & Google. Now back in Australia to bring together creativity, technology & innovation to change businesses. Here’s how I think these three areas have come to be the key themes of my career so far:The magic of creativity was something I learned as a teenager in art classes. It's been a constant companion in my 20 year career. Because you are not born creative, you train your creativity and like any skill: use it or lose it. As a result, I’ve been part of teams for some of the world’s most creative brands like Nike, Lego, Stella Artois, MTV, Saab, H&M, McDonald's and of course Heineken, named Creative Marketer of the Year at the Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity in 2014. The importance of technology is that it doesn’t kill old ways of working, it just adds complexity and opportunity. I’ve been working almost exactly as long as Google has been a search engine. I learned about brand-building before Facebook and was one of the first to learn how to make a return on investment from it. I’ve seen technology from the perspective of an agency professional adapting to new specialisms, as a brand builder needing to connect with consumers in new ways and at a technology company itself as it navigates the challenges of scale, user trust & competition. The power of innovation is as enormous as it is hard to achieve. And I have experienced companies who talk a lot about innovation, but also companies that get on and just do it. I’m proud to say that I’ve even had the chance to develop some new approaches to innovation as well as having studied or worked beside the best innovators in business. I’ve seen the creation of the first data dress designed by a mobile phone, the first interactive beer bottle & the world’s first self-driving bike. The last one’s a bit of a joke but I’d been happy to explain why it’s also an innovation of sorts. I am still learning and curious for what the future holds and how we can all drive to make businesses better for all. Because the thing that makes the difference in success, it's the people and teams that sit behind them and getting to help them form effective collaborations is more rewarding than the output. Cultural values that support open, playful, humble yet ambitious people are for me.
