I'm a journalist and teacher who loves exploring new directions for journalism. My present focus is helping the Newmark J-School train an emerging generation of creative, entrepreneurial journalists. In the previous phase of my career, as a reporter for Time Magazine, I wrote about new approaches to business and about the impact of new technology on the way we live. When I'm not teaching at the J-School, I give talks and lead workshops about digital media. I love sharing tips, tools and techniques for making effective use of digital tools to streamline and enjoy life. I'm an eager and persistent learner, committed to continually learning new things and sharing ideas openly. More on what I've focused on in recent years: At the Tow-Knight Center we've worked with 134 entrepreneurial journalism fellows from 37 countries over more than eight years. Each fellow has started a media or journalism-related venture. Many have continued running their ventures successfully, while others have gone on to lead teams at top journalism, tech and business organizations. We've developed one of the most diverse entrepreneurial programs around, and one of the first focused on entrepreneurial journalism. As part of our work at Tow-Knight, I've: - Developed a new fellowship program for enterprising journalists around the world. - Coached and mentored students and professional journalists building their own sites, apps, platforms and services. - Developed a new curriculum for teaching entrepreneurial journalism in person and online.- Explored new ways to make entrepreneurial journalism training accessible to anyone, anywhere at any time.- Organized events for the entrepreneurial journalism community including demo nights, idea-sharing days, conferences focused on revenue-generation and skill-building workshops.Specialties: Teaching, Writing, Editing, Reporting, Advising, Coaching, Journalism, Web Tools, Digital Journalism, Entrepreneurial Journalism
