I appreciate a wide variety of projects ranging from web development, data science, deep learning, computer engineering and the challenges associated with running a small startup company. I’m interested in following connections from different fields and how different technologies can stack together. Although I’m intrigued by technical problems, recently I was the Chief Executive Officer of a small defense contracting startup that had an active Phase I STTR and was selected for the Phase II from the Office of Naval Research. Through this experience I learned about the daily business operations ranging from payroll, legal, contract administration, human resource issues and negotiations. Although this was not technical in terms of science or programming, I saw first hand the difficulty and importance of managing a company. I thoroughly enjoyed this experience. My degree fields have drastically changed during my academic career. My undergraduate degree was a double major consisting of economics and interdisciplinary studies (math, stats, sociology). After studying wavelets in economics, I wanted to learn more about them and pursued a M.A. in mathematics with Dr. Andre Khalil as a co-advisor, whose specialty is wavelets and fractals. I was intrigued by this research and am now a PhD candidate in computer engineering, retaining Dr. Khalil as a co-advisor. My PhD research will aim to combine wavelet methods with deep learning.

ResearcherCompumaine Lab Jun 2018 - PresentOrono, Maine AreaThe CompuMAINE lab is part of the Biomedical Engineering Department at the University of Maine. They work on a range of image processing techniques in different fields. The lab has developed a patented computational cancer detection method utilizing the Wavelet Transform Modulus Maxima (WTMM).My PhD will focus on blending the WTMM method with deep learning to see if we can improve upon our existing methods. My M.A. thesis analyzed the impact of image saturation on the resulting WTMM statistics. This is important to the lab since some of the mammograms we have are saturated and we want to see how does this affect our methods. I developed a rescue method to mitigate the effects of saturation and recapture statistical order moments.I'm the founder of the machine learning subgroup within CompuMAINE that was started during summer 2019.A link to the lab: https://umaine.edu/compumaine/ -
Chief Executive OfficerFaster Logic, Llc Jul 2021 - Dec 2021San Diego, California, United StatesWhen Faster Logic won its first Phase I STTR from the Office of Naval Research in 2020, I was promoted to Associate Project Engineer. In this position, I gained experience with project management, research planning, and business outreach. Near the end of the initial Phase I contract, the company was selected for Phase II and awarded the Phase I Option. Part way through the Phase I Option, the company founder, Dr. Raymond Moberly, unexpectedly passed away. After some discussions and reflection, I became the Chief Executive Officer of Faster Logic. It took Dr. Moberly 7 years of hard work to reach this point and I wanted to continue what he started. While managing the company, there were multiple simultaneous changellges: I needed to understand the company’s current situation, determine the deliverables for the Phase I Option, go through a Defense Contract Audit Agency accounting systems audit and begin preparations for the Phase II follow on contract. Additionally, I had to fix the payroll system and help the accountant reconcile the books. I also became the Principal Investigator; I quickly learned the different research directions, managed the research teams, engaged in long term planning for future product development, and aggregated the research findings into reports. During this time there were issues with subcontract administration and lead personnel. Even with all of these obstacles I was able to successfully complete the Phase I Option Final Report. This was an intense period and I gained invaluable experience running an STTR company, handling personnel issues, and learning best practices for business operations. After analyzing the current situation involving significant personnel issues beyond my control and the increased amount of risk, the company owner and I agreed to dissolve Faster Logic. In closing the company: I assisted our attorney with dissolution notices, helped verify W-2s and 1099s with the accountant, and paid any remaining taxes. -

Data AnalystLytx, Inc. Feb 2018 - Jun 2018Greater San Diego AreaSummary:• Completed on-demand reports utilizing Excel Query and Tableau.• Automated data downloads from Tableau server using selenium (Python).• Wrote a PowerShell script to migrate data from various Excel templates and execute VBA Marcos. This primary function of this role was to generate reports and PowerPoints summarizing relevant statistics for clients. This process involved repetitive steps with only slight variation. I took data from Tableau transferred it into excel templates, altered some settings and ran the statistics to make the PowerPoints. The majority of reports were required during the first half of the month and we could work on any project we wanted for the second half. For obvious reasons, I wanted to automate the report generation process. Using a combination of Python, Powershell, Excel VBA and Tableau Server I created scripts to automate the reports. Before leaving, I showed my supervisor a few minimal working examples. A single command in the terminal would download the data from Tableau server, move the data to Excel templates, execute the VBA macros, copy the graphs and statistics to the PowerPoint Template, edit the PowerPoint and send an email with the PowerPoint attached. If I had stayed at the position longer, I would have focused on making the code more reusable and widely applicable to more reports. -
Financial Analyst InternReality Shares, Inc. Jun 2016 - Jun 2017San DiegoSummary:• Manipulated data in SQL and Excel for research, marketing projects and website development. • Automated daily tasks for the senior financial analyst with PowerShell.• Analyzed financial data and wrote reports/articles.I manipulated and cleaned data in Excel for research and marketing projects. I would generate a monthly and quarterly report for the clients. I worked with SQL programming for website development and internal reports, this involved working with Microsoft SQL and MySQL. Every work day, the Senior Financial Analyst updated the company’s ETF prices on the website through Wordpress. The update would take about 15 minutes because multiple pages needed the previous day's stock price to be replaced. I wanted to automate this process and so I started learning PowerShell on my own and exploring potential options. I developed a script that nearly automated the entire procedure and reduced the time to 3 minutes. For my last project, I automated the monthly report by switching the word document to LaTex which is an open source typesetting software that makes professional looking documents. -
