During my 22+ years of founding & scaling businesses, I came to realise that entrepreneurs solve the world's biggest problems. However, a lack of access to smart money & global markets inhibits so many from changing the world.I now invest in and advise impact tech startups and funds to achieve the UN SDGs, with a focus on climate and diversity.I am a partner at Third Hemisphere, a climate, tech, and finance media relations firm for innovators & leaders who are breaking new ground & changing the world for the better.I've invested in a large portfolio of tech and impact companies through VC funds and as an angel, coached/advised hundreds, and manage media and marketing for organisations such as Virescent Ventures, Australian Ethical (ASX:AEF), MONEYME (ASX:MME), The Riverside Co, Cicada Innovations, Volt bank, XREF (ASX:XF1), and OMG (OpenMarkets). But how did I get here?In 1999 I finished school and, because I've always loved helping people, started a psychology degree. After experiencing a dark period, I was on the couch of a psychopharmacologist who turned my life around & was then diagnosed with cancer. Before he died, Dr John Anderson changed my life. He said to me;“If you can get to the end of your life, look back, and know that you made every step count, you will die a happy man.”So making every step count became my guiding principle, and I will be forever grateful to John for setting me on this path. That is why I got into business with my brother & opened 8 retail outlets across Sydney & Singapore when I was 20. Business became my vehicle to make enough money to have a big positive impact on the world. At 24 I founded a health food company called RioLife, because the Acai industry operated on the triple bottom line principle: it's good for the people (fair trade), the planet (Greenpeace endorsed), & we could make a profit. We also donated 1% of our revenue to a charity school for the children of the women who harvested our berries. At 30, after publishing "From Idea to Startup" and coaching ~200 startups, I was asked to take over as President in Australia for the G20 Young Entrepreneurs Alliance (G20 YEA).Five years of work with UN agencies & the G20 proved that high growth early-stage companies create the innovation & jobs the world needs, and that access to smart money & global markets are the greatest accelerators. Now through Third Hemisphere and family investment vehicles, I back founders who solve the world's biggest problems and generate outsized returns.

B20 Argentina Smes Development Task Force MemberB20 Jan 2018 - Dec 2018Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) account for over 95% of enterprises, 60-70% of employment and 55% of the gross domestic product and are essential to strengthening productivity and delivering more inclusive growth.Entrepreneurship is at the core of the SMEs formation, their survival and growth. Governments should aim at promoting entrepreneurship skills through education and training broadening the funding alternatives and financial assistance and introducing special entrepreneurship programs that may, for instance, temporarily reduce tax burden. The B20 SMEs Cross-Thematic Group is confident that the implementation of the recommended actions will allow for SMEs to deliver valuable contributions towards inclusive growth sustainable economic development. -
B20 Germany Smes Development Task Force MemberB20 Jan 2017 - Dec 2017Small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) represent the vast majority of enterprises worldwide. They are an essential pillar of innovation, economic and social progress as well as job creation. At the same time, they face a multitude of challenges, such as access to finance or the complex regulatory business environment. Access to markets abroad and shortage of skilled labor in a more and more digitalized economy are further concern for SMEs.These concerns have been increasingly accounted for by many governments. But we need to do more. How can SME be further empowered? How can a better participation of SME in global value chains be facilitated? Specific attention also needs to be given to the implementation of SME-friendly regulations and agreements as well as ensuring full access to the financial markets. The G20 can and has to contribute to a level-playing field that enables SMEs. -
B20 China Sme Development Task Force MemberB20 Jan 2016 - Dec 2016SMEs are vital sources of productivity and innovation, of economic growth and job creation. Since global economic growth is weak and investor confidence is low, the G20 governments and business communities highly value the development of SMEs. -
B20 Turkey Smes & Entrepreneurship Task Force MemberB20 Jan 2015 - Dec 2015B20 is an influential platform that serves as an intermediary group between G20 Governments and the international business community. Primary mission of the B20 is dealing with the urgent and significant global issues by developing actionable recommendations thanks to the commitments of global business leaders and G20 Leaders.“The B20 taskforces” are the fundamental pillars of the B20 events that are identified by the host country to cover the main business related issues. Since the first B20 event in 2010, various global issues have been prioritized according to the global conjuncture and identified as those years’ taskforces.SMEs represent more than sixty percent of the global workplace. The argument that SMEs will be the main driver of economic recovery across global markets is gaining momentum. Given the increasing relevance of SMEs and entrepreneurship, B20 Turkey’s SME and Entrepreneurship taskforce will focus on bottlenecks that hinder the growth of these companies. Some issues to be discussed under this taskforce include the potential impact of new financial regulations on SME financing, internationalization of SMEs and SME integration into global value chains, developing new equity financing mechanisms for startups ranging from angel investing to crowdfunding, and enhancing win-win relationships between startups and large corporations. -

Discussion points from the G20YEA Summit will be presented to world leaders throughout the year, and during the G20 Leaders Summit. The world faces an unprecedented challenge:Most developing economies are struggling to create enough employment for their young populations. Developed economies are caught between rising deficits, low rates of growth and high levels of unemployment that disproportionately affect youth. Entrepreneurship is the solution:We believe a global problem needs a global solution. In 2010 we created an unprecedented new global network: the G20 Young Entrepreneurs’ Alliance. The Alliance is working to promote youth entrepreneurship as a solution to the challenge of economic renewal. We believe that this global movement – and the energy and dynamism it will generate – can transform our societies and our economies. -

Host, 2014 G20 Yea Summit SydneyG20 Young Entrepreneurs Alliance Jul 2014 - Jul 2014Toronto, Ontario, CaThe young entrepreneurs of the world gathered at the Sydney G20 YEA Summit support the Australian G20 priorities on private sector led growth and greater resilience of the world economy. We call on the G20 Leaders, Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors to focus on entrepreneurship and agree to implement policies, legislation and incentives for ecosystems that support start-ups and sustainable high growth entrepreneurial SMEs, young entrepreneurs and enhance private sector led growth. Global structural unemployment is a crisis that disproportionately harms young people. Expert Group Meeting - Speaker On Youth EntrepreneurshipUnited Nations Project Office On Governance (Unpog)/Dpadm/Un Desa Nov 2013 - Nov 2013Incheon, Incheon, KrIn November 2013 the Division for Social Policy and Development (DSPD), UN DESA, organized an Expert Group Meeting in United Nations headquarters, New York under the theme ‘Youth, development and rights’. The meeting brought together experts and representatives of youth organisations, academia, Member States, UN Agencies and Programmes, and intergovernmental organizations, to identify and discuss issues pertaining to young people, civic, political and economic rights, and development.Theme supplied by UN DESA:Where young people seek to create their own employment via entrepreneurship and self-employment schemes, they also face significant barriers hindering such ingenuity. Lack of access to financial services, such as credit, loans, creating bank accounts and financial education, impede the ability of young entrepreneurs to get their ideas and businesses off the ground. Few financial service institutions adequately cater to the needs of young entrepreneurs and more is needed to ensure an environment which fosters young people’s economic creativity. What changes need to take place to allow for a better enabling environment for youth entrepreneurship, access to credit and financial services? Has the increasing number of young entrepreneurs in the tech world changed the view of financial services towards young people?Mainstreaming themes:• Gender discrimination• Diversity & discrimination -
