About Jeremy O'Keefe

I lead a team at DTA working with agencies to align to the Australian Government's digital transformation agenda and engage with them for better digital investment design and delivery through the budget process.At IP Australia from 2016 to 2021, I managed the Data Engineering team in the Centre of Data Excellence responsible for BAU support and enhancement of our AWS data lake and Oracle data warehouse, and before that the Data Management team in IT which ran the data warehouse, database and ETL development, reference data, customer master data, data quality, fee rules, analytics and BI reporting.Previously, I managed the BI and Data Services Section at the Clean Energy Regulator (CER) from 2013 to 2016, building up the CER’s Enterprise Data Warehouse and BI reporting capabilities for National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting (NGER), Renewable Energy Target (RET) and other datasets. I have worked on climate change policy and programs since 1998 including setting up Carbon Pricing Mechanism registration and reporting processes, managing registrations and emissions reporting under the NGER Act 2007, running tenders for ETS auctions and the ANREU (national register of carbon units), compiling emissions estimates for Australia’s National Greenhouse Accounts, compiling economic projections of Australia’s emissions for electricity generation, agriculture and other sectors, and providing policy advice on emissions trading and carbon sinks. In the 1990s, I worked on tax policy for natural resource management and native vegetation conservation policy at the Environment Department, and undertook economic research on agroforestry and forest product industries at ABARE. I also worked and studied in Japan for four years, where I wrote a Master’s thesis on the overseas investments of the Japanese pulp and paper industry.
