As the Director of Public Works and Engineering, I had the incredible opportunity to lead and manage a diverse 1,400-acre facility, home to a thriving community of 16,000 people and valued at $2.2 billion. The facility spanned multiple sites, including Naval Base Point Loma, Harbor Side Annex, Old Town Campus, Taylor Street, Mount Soledad, and the Naval Brig Miramar.Leading a dedicated team of 215 professionals became one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. Together, we focused on everything from asset management and long-range infrastructure planning to environmental and energy management. Our work touched on various aspects of the facility, including utilities management, engineering, construction execution, and public works services.What made this role truly special for me was the strong collaboration between our team and the 71 tenant commands and six major fleet units that we supported. My hands-on approach and passion for leadership allowed us to drive continuous improvement, optimize operations, and promote sustainable practices across the facility.In the end, my time as the Director of Public Works and Engineering taught me the importance of fostering a culture of excellence, teamwork, and open communication. I am grateful for the opportunity to have made a lasting impact on the community and the facility's overall success.

My strong communication skills and strategic mindset helped me foster cross-functional collaboration and promote a culture of continuous improvement.What I enjoyed most about this role was the opportunity to apply my problem-solving skills and operations management expertise to optimize processes, enhance resource allocation, and drive performance across the IPT. In my role as Deputy Regional Engineer, I had the opportunity to take on the responsibility of identifying facility requirements and managing resources for the Commander Navy Installations Command, Southwest. Ensuring that regional priorities drove resource decisions was both a challenge and a truly rewarding experience.Managing a $660 million program budget, I had the chance to oversee various aspects of facility planning, maintenance, custodial/grounds services, construction, utilities, real estate actions, and transportation operations. The scope of my work spanned across 10 Navy bases with a $30 billion plant account footprint throughout California and Nevada.What made this role so special to me was the ability to make a meaningful impact on the daily operations and infrastructure of these naval facilities. Working closely with my team, I strived to create an environment where everyone could collaboratively contribute their skills and expertise. This team spirit and shared sense of purpose helped us to drive efficiency and optimize resource allocation across the region.Looking back on my time as Deputy Regional Engineer, I am proud of the accomplishments we achieved together, and I cherish the relationships I formed along the way. My role focused on enabling the team to construct advanced base facilities in support of the Navy, Marine Corps, and Army team engaged in military operations.Developing in-depth training plans was a key aspect of my job, ensuring that our Seabees were well-prepared to provide emergency repair, maintenance, and construction support during contingencies, emergency or disaster recovery operations, and defensive combat operations.What made this role truly special for me was witnessing the growth and development of our team members as they honed their skills and became more adept at handling various situations. It was incredibly rewarding to play a part in shaping their professional capabilities, knowing that their training would contribute to the success of the missions they were supporting.Working closely with these talented individuals and sharing my knowledge and experience with them was a privilege.
