The Animal Welfare Science Centre (AWSC) is a jointly funded research Centre of the University of Melbourne, The University of Adelaide, the Victorian Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources and the South Australian Research & Development Institute.Responsibilities• Manage the Centre’s educational training packages and develop and implement procedures to effectively increase their uptake within Australia and overseas.• Manage the Centre’s annual operating budget of $250k to ensure efficient use of funds and develop strategies to broaden its funding base.• Manage the preparation and collection of all Centre reports, newsletters, prospectus and capability statements and publicity material.• With and on behalf of project leaders, liaise with potential funders on project opportunities that are of high priority and can be addressed through the Centre’s research capability.• Maintain a regular communication process with industry stakeholders and funding bodies.• Develop communication strategies across the partner institutions.• Facilitate and promote farm animal and companion research plans and measurement of KPIs as defined in the Strategic Plan.• Manage grant application procedures and actively source potential funding partners. Average funding per year for the Centre is around $1m/yr.• Represent the AWSC as required on State and National committees.• Provide executive function to the National Animal Welfare RD&E Strategy.• Manage provision of ProHand stockperson training programs.
